One dose of vaccine might be enough to protect both adults and children older than 6 months against the swine flu pandemic, an international expert panel has concluded.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/10/30/AR2009103001344.html?hpid=topnews This is great news, as I was already debating the merits of a second vaccination and hadn't been fully convinced it was necessary. My 5 year old got the mist on Tuesday and woke up with congestion and a cough on Wednesday. He now has a low fever. I wasn't looking forward to a second round of this in 4 weeks. |

Woo hoo! My fingers are crossed!!
We got the mist, too. |

I think WHO is more concerned about vaccinating more children than making sure those who are vaccinated get two doses.
I plan for my 2 yr old to have the booster in 3 weeks (hopefully we can find it!). |

Be careful of how you interpret this article. They are not saying that one shot is necessarily enough to protect your child.
They are saying that, in a situation where there is not enough to go around, they would rather spread the vaccine around to double the number of children, even if each child is only partially protected. Another thing to consider is that the statement is being made by WHO. But globally, countries are using adjuvants which boost the of the vaccine. In our country, we wisely or unwisely (I choose the latter) do not allow adjuvants in our vaccines. So even if this WHO statement pans out for other countries, it may not hold here in the U.S. |
