CityZen

Anyone been recently, is it worth the hype?

Not recently, probably 2 years ago. But, at the time I thought it wasn't worth the hype. For a nice dinner, I would much rather go to Komi. We've been several times and LOVE it.

I also went about 2 years ago, and I thought it was not as good as Komi, but still great. (Komi is, as far as I can tell, the best restaurant in the DC area, so saying it's not as good isn't much criticism).

OP again, how does it compare to Marcel's. We have a reservation at Marcel, just got a call for CityZen (they got a cancellation) and trying to decide. Its for our anniversary dinner. We both love French but also want to try something different - what to do?

I have been to all 3 restaurants mentioned above.
Cityzen - went last year and LOVED it. It was my 4th time. 3 out of the 4 times it was amazing. The ambience is the best out of the 3.
Marcels - used to be my favorite for food but went for my bday last year and wasnt that impressed anymore.
Komi - one of a kind. This in my opinion is a very special restaurant and you really really have to be a foodie.
I think Cityzen is a great place for a fancy date night and cocktails where Komi the food is amazing but there is no bar or ambience.

Went about two years ago and thought it was amazing. Sat near the kitchen, which is pretty open, and loved watching the chefs work. The food was terrific and the service was really excellent.

Went recently and it was great. That said, I think Komi is better if you haven't been recently.

We've been a number of times and I love it. We always do the tasting menu. But I have to admit that our most recent visit was disappointing in terms of service and expediting (though the food was still excellent). I don't think the chef was in the kitchen; we didn't see him and we heard he's concentrating on the new restaurant at the hotel. His presence makes a difference.
