Stocking the cupboards in the event of a pandemic in the USA

I have no idea what Spam tastes like, but I now have an eight-pack of it from Costco. Depending on how long we need to stay put avoiding the stores, I expect to donate 11 of them, or maybe 10.

Hahaha, I meant 7 or 6. I have such a good a priori on Spam that I'd like to donate more than I bought.

We go through a lot of milk in my house. We would miss it.

We go through a ton of milk so I’ve got a multi-layer stockpile going. First layer is regular gallons. Trying to keep 2-4 on hand at all times. Second layer is UHT organic half gallons. I have five cartons and they are good through the first week of May. Third layer is ALDI tinned evaporated milk. Good for a few years, 55 cents each. Fourth layer is powdered milk, plus quik powder to make it palatable to kids. I really only have this because Sam’s was clearancing it out and I can use it in bread baking.

Buy small. chest freezer and freeze milk in paper cartons as sold. Try one tomorrow freeze one day defrost the next. Freezes just fine.

Prepare to be amazed open one now. It is kind of like with coca cola.. put it in the fridge first, it is not as repulsive as room temp. Repulsive is the correct word that I suspect has been invented by the first person who tasted spam. Not many animals will touch it but college students survive on it. However. They end up in life ling therapy for PTSD for it, so all the advantage of college education earnings end up in the pockets of therapists.

This is so stupid. Your kids can survive two weeks without cow milk. If you’re worried get a kids chewable multivitamin.

All kids can survive without cow milk. It is meant for cows, not humans.

I'm the OP. I have three teenage boys who are all about six feet tall and they drink at least a gallon a day plus what they put in cereal. It was just a question, and no one worried about survival. No "kids" involved here, and no interest in "kids chewable vitamins."

I asked about powered milk, and the other two PPs had better ideas. Thank you, PPs!
