The kids are around 12, 10, and 8. You're in your 40's and are finally ready to head back to work soon. You didn't expect to stay home as long as you did but you really became involved in the kids' activities once Aaron started school (Daniel was in preschool for half the day, so you finally had some free time to explore other things!). You're a cute woman but you don't really think so. You thought a guy at church might have come on a bit too strong at the Easter potluck and it irked you, but it was also a bit flattering. You were attracted to your DH because he is a solid guy and comes from a good family. He's in the insurance business or is a computer engineer of some sort. You also liked the way he looked a bit of Chris O'Donnell's character in, "Scent of a Woman." He's older now and wears glasses but his sandy blonde hair is still gorgeous and you're happy that Rebecca has his coloring instead of your mousy brown hair and brown eyes. Aaron is a solid student and is looking into some robotics camps this summer. Daniel is still losing teeth on a regular basis and he is totally mama's little man -- he got in to AAP this year and you're hoping that, by hanging out with kids with similar personalities, he'll calm down a bit in class. Rebecca plays the clarinet and has braces. She is going to be a very pretty girl and that makes you happy. |
Bump. |
DH desperately wanted a boy, and you had a strong feeling Sydney was a girl, so you waited until birth to find out the sex. You wonder sometimes if DH resents you for never giving him the boy he wanted, especially because you told him you were unwilling to go for a third. Lillian is bookish and likes horses. Sydney is mouthy and a handful. You live in Bethesda but want to move home to be closer to your family. This is and has been for the past 8 or so years since Sydney was born, the biggest bone of contention in your marriage. DH is an attorney and makes enough money for you to SAH and live in Bethesda and does not understand why that's not good enough for you. On girls' nights out, you always want to do karaoke. Nobody ever wants to do karaoke with you. If you ever get to do karaoke, your song is "Holiday" by Madonna. You cried when JFK Jr. died. Carolyn was so beautiful. |
I hope that Landon is a boy and that he does not attend Landon, the school. I have a feeling Landon is a girl... (pulling back the curtain so you can see how I do this) I see what you did there with the reverse trend of Hailey and Lauren's names; Hailey is 15 and Lauren is just 12. You'd think Lauren would be older. I'll bet there was great consternation about what to name Hailey. You waffled between Hailey and Lauren, but since DH chose Harrison, how adorable would it be to have HarrisonandHailey? So, wait. Landon = boy! Surprise! You had ANOTHER baby, and sooner than you thought! Wow, ok, it's a boy, not Lauren, L-two syllables., sounds great with HarrisonandHailey, but NOT another H name. That's just beyond...Landon! Perfect! Ok, we'll try again..might as well have four, as we are already running zone defense here. No way! A girl! We can use Lauren! One of the girls has a middle name of Nicole. Or Noelle. Or Danielle. |
You were pretty young when you had Mariah and there was a brief period when she was around 5 years old when you thought you and DH might not make it. But you were both happy when William came along and have been making an effort at a fresh start. You secretly love William just a tiny bit more than Mariah. You've moved around the DC area a bit and you/DH have conflicts about whether or not you really want to stay in the DC area permanently or move closer to family, who are mostly in the midwest. You work full time. |
Uh, my kids' names totally outed me, but..who cares?

You and your DH met at BC or Vandy. He was one of those guys everybody loved but wasn't traditionally handsome, still you fell in love with his brains and sense of humor. Plus, he has a ton of friends. Just like you. You became pregnant with Lillian almost immediately and she's named after DH's grandmother. You quit work (which, admittedly, you didn't like much anyway), while your DH got into Wharton. After he graduated, Sydney arrived and you all moved to a very, very nice neighborhood in NWDC. The girls ride horses and, although it's hard to get out to their stables every other day, you make sure you make the effort. Your red SUV smells kind of like hay. The girls are incredibly sweet and happy. Your friends, that you are very good about keeping in touch with, constantly tell you how pretty they are after you post one of the many photos you have of them on Facebook. You and DH make it a point to get back to your alma mater (and bring Lilly and Syd with you) to see your friends and catch up. You are envied but are so nice that people have a hard time disliking you. Maybe you'll go back to work someday, but you don't really think about it. Your DH still adores you, even though you aren't the size 4 you used to be. You have a beautiful face (Syd looks just like you) and are content with yourself. There's no doubt where the girls will go to undergrad since DH makes a 5 figure (or low 4 figure) donation to your alma mater every year. |

A Gen X'er. You wore Doc Martens and babydoll dresses. You have a tramp stamp you got in college that you now try to hide when you go to the pool. It's supposedly the Chinese symbol for "breathe" but in reality, it is the Chinese symbol for "toucan." Your high school crush was Christian Slater and you once spent a summer following Del Amitri around the country on tour. You lost your virginity in your boyfriend's Mustang to the song "Glycerine" by Bush. Clinique Happy was your scent for years. At one point you swore you were going to walk down the aisle to the instrumental version of "Crash" by Dave Matthews Band. You now live in an old rambler in Silver Spring and read DCUM for a good laugh. When the kids spend the weekend at the grandparents' you and your husband smoke a joint on the back porch and walk around the house naked all weekend. You read some of the threads in the Relationship Discussion forum out loud to him and you two just shake your heads. |

PP/Wildwood poster. I'm coming over with cookies! Your house is gorgeous.
I still picture you smoking cigs in the screened porch out back. |
We do this. And I'm a Gen X'er, but of the 80s variety. (oh, not the Mom of Mariah and William, this just caught my eye). |
Yeah. And drinking red wine. Do you dare to head to the wilds of McLean? Everyone on DCUM hates it! |
I'm coming too! Do Margeaux and Veronica have to share a room? |
| High school? I still have a crush on Christian Slater. No matter how many crappy movies he's done. |
