Practice PSAT

Our 9th grader took a practice PSAT back in October. Any one know when and where we are able to get the results?

Check with admin at your kid’s school. My kid’s school says they’ll try to get scores to kids before winter break.

In the e-mail we received from the school in October before the test:

All students must have a working email address on the PSAT answer sheet. Results will be distributed electronically by the College Board with an access code emailed to that address in January.

Not sure if this applies to the practice PSAT as well as the actual PSAT.

What is a practice PSAT anyway? How is it any different?

PSAT scores arrive in December, not January.

At our school all 10th graders took a practice PSAT, while 11th graders took the "actual" PSAT. I think it's the same test.

The practice PSAT taken by 10th graders is the exact same test given to 11th graders to qualify for National Merit Scholars, it's just called something different to make clear that that 10th grade scores are not eligible for the National Merit stuff. The practice PSAT taken by 9th graders is different -- it's shorter. 9th graders can opt to take the PSAT 10 (your school may or may not have made that clear or given that option), so if some people say their 9th grader took the "real" PSAT, that's why.

Thanks for the clarification. Does the school (or college board) not grade the "practice PSAT" and send the "booklet" home for parents to grade it? I was talking to a parent that has a 9th grader in a W school and the child came back with the booklet of the questions and answers for the PSAT and the parent checked the answers based off a "key" of correct answers. My own 9th grader on the other hand took the test and was told that the results will be available in December. Who makes the "not-real" PSAT questions? Is it something that collegeboard gives or is it something that MCPS or the school puts together. We also paid out of pocket for the 9th grade PSAT.

The PSAT 8/9 that your kid took is an official practice test created by the College Board. You'll get official results in December. I think it's December 10th that you can log into your kid's account and view the report -- the school will send them home later than that, probably after a meeting to explain how to interpret the results. I haven't heard about the booklet and answers your friend had, and I can't remember if my kid came home with the test she took last year.

How do we know what test our 9th grader took? Unfortunately, the school did not communicate with us about these options. Will it be made evident in the results that it was the PSAT 10 test? I do not want to run to the counselor for every thing that I read on DCUM. They are reading DCUM too... and I will be outed.

I thought the PSAT was the practice SAT? Now they have a practice PSAT?

Ninth graders at several schools took a practice PSAT test made by the Princeton Review. Some may have taken other tests, though, as I know a few have also taken the official PSAT.

Tenth graders and eleventh graders took the official PSAT. I know the official results come next week, but I have no idea when for the ninth grader.
