"Veterinarians are encouraging dog owners to get their dog the canine flu shot vaccine to help protect their pet from dog flu [(canine influenza, a highly contagious respiratory virus)]. . . . 'They should get two vaccines, again two weeks apart, and seven to 10 days after the second vaccine is administered. Then their pet should have adequate immunity,' said Senior Veterinarian Dr. Jack Sexton. . . . Not all dogs need the shots, which can run $30-50 each. . . . However, if your dog is out and about, veterinarians say, the vaccine might be worth it. Also, there are no reports of shortages of the vaccine."

| Great. So there's no problem with just walking in and getting Rover vaccinated. But I'm 30+ weeks pregnant, due in the middle of winter, with an older child in the immunological cesspool known as preschool and I have to devote hours of my time to tracking down and obtaining the increasingly scarce human vaccine. WTF? |
It's not the same virus. It's Type A, H3N8. That's why it isn't hard to get. So dressing DC up in a Rover halloween costume, while tempting, is not the way to dodge the lines. |
| Our vet is only recommending it if you frequent dog parks or board your dogs. |
