Recommendations for a kid-friendly show in NY

Anonymous
Building off an earlier thread about kid-friendly things to do in NY, can anyone recommend a kid-friendly performance that would be appropriate for a 5 and 3 year old? The broadway shows seem so long (Mary Poppins is 2 hrs. 45 mins.), but I'd love to find a concert or other show that would be fun to see while we are there (in December). Thanks for any suggestions!

The Rockettes Christmas show? That is supposed to be a family show. Not sure how long it is, though.

We travel to NYC frequently, and I'm with you -- I'd wait a while before taking them to a Broadway show, both because of the length and cost. When you do take them, though, I highly recommend Lion King -- costumes, sets, lighting and music are fabulous, and it's a big warm-hearted story, of course. In the meantime, try Big Apple Circus at Lincoln Center -- see yesterday's review in the Times. We've also seen wonderful puppet shows at the Swedish Cottage in Central Park. In addition, check out the website for Theatreworks USA, which produces kids shows in many cities, including many of the children's productions at the Ken Cen. In NYC, I think they regularly stage shows at the Lucille Lortel. Finally, check out gocitykids.com, which has listings for kid-friendly activities in many major cities, including DC and NY. Have fun!
