Vitamins/supplements and TTC

Anonymous
What vitamins/supplements are you taking? Do you continue them after bfp?

I am just taking prenatal and baby aspirin but I am thinking of adding vitamin c and vitamin b complex as well to help with progesterone. If I get a bfp this cycle do I keep taking them? Or stop?

Also I have read conflicting reports regarding Vitamin C. Is it good or bad for you while you are TTC? I was thinking of taking 500mg a day extra but then I read somewhere that it could impede implantation.

I think I've heard of women taking lots of Vit C to induce abortion, so maybe some truth to that but I would ask your doctor.

I take Theralogix preconception. Turns my pee neon yellow, but I'm noticing that I have a little more energy on it so that's good.

During my successful IUI cycle I stopped baby aspirin and vitamin C about a week after ovulation.

It Starts With the Egg is a great resource for learning about which supplements to take.

Check out Binto. It is a subscription service for supplements for pre-conception and pregnancy.

I took Ubiquinol and got pregnant about 45 days after starting it (following 5 months of no luck). Could be just correlation, who knows.

My RE had me take coq10 and DHEA (latter not compatible with breastfeeding, if that's an issue; I'm still nursing so skipping that this time.) I also prenatal (duh!) and additional vitamin C, fish oil, and melatonin. There are studies that melatonin helps with mitochondria and RE said "can't hurt, might help." The coq10 and DHEA need 90 days to improve the egg health. Good luck!

Also, FWIW-- I did IVF/FET. I had to do 2 retrievals with genetic testing but the first FET resulted in healthy, live birth. Good luck!

Hi OP, I would carefully research any supplements and check with your doctor and a certified herbalist before taking them. They are not drugs but like drugs they affect everyone differently. Also different supplements can help with different issues so you want to make sure that you may actually need what you're considering. Glad to hear you're already on a good prenatal, that's the first and most important thing you need to be taking while TTC. Good luck! (Fertility Coach)

What is a fertility coach? Did you go to school for this? It honestly sounds like a made up/MLM title.

My RE had me start CoQ10, fish oil, and a vitamin D supplement because my levels were low despite the prenatal. She did not want me to start DHEA until we actually made the switch over to prepping for IVF. The other supplements are "can't hurt, might help", but DHEA can actually hurt, so I wouldn't take that unless you're under a doctor's supervision.
