| I'm currently piloting a free program aimed at helping those struggling to conceive explore all options available to them. I was hoping those who had done IUI's; IVFs; Adoption etc. wouldn't mind sharing with me how much you paid and when (what year). We did multiple cycles of IVF back in 2013 under a federal insurance plan so I know those numbers (which don't really matter anymore since no federal plans offer IVF) but could use help on some of the other estimates. I'm interested in info on diagnostic baseline testing (approximate); low tech options like timed intercourse and IUI; IVF and meds (please specify donor or not and shared risk or not); Adoption; and surrogacy. Obviously this is not a formal survey but I'm busy researching info on the plans in the MD health exchange that offer infertility coverage right now and won't have the time to get info on the other options before our weekly session tomorrow night. Many many thanks in advance for any help folks can offer. |
Would you share info on what MD exchange plans cover fertility treatments? |
|
Most of this is already online - adoptions are generally $20-80K depending on private, agency, attorney, and if you get scamed or not.
Surrogacy is more around $100K, if not more. |

I paid $21,500 for a 2-cycle package for regular (own eggs) IVF with PICSI and assisted hatching.
Donor egg IVF is $7500 plus fees for donor eggs which is approximately $15,000 (for a set of 6 frozen eggs). Hope this helps. |
Forgot to say that the meds for the regular IVF were about $6,000 per cycle. Medicines for embryo transfer which were included in the cycle costs were about $1,000. |
Op here - sure I'd be happy to share what I learn. Still researching right now. |
Op here - thanks. I'm looking for real individual examples so asking for direct experience. Plus my time is limited so am focusing my online research tonight on understanding the MD infertility mandate. |
Op here - yes, this is exactly what I need. Many thanks for sharing. So donor eggs with transfer, meds, etc. ran you approx. $22,500? |
Probably closer to $23,500 with the meds for transfer plus some other fees. |
If you time is limited maybe you shouldn't create a blog based off opinions. There is already a lot of information out there if you take the time to look. Everyones situation and experience is different. |
Op here. Thanks for your input. No not creating a blog nor trying to pick a fight. I suffered from infertility for a little over three years and want to give back. So am piloting a weekly program once a week at my home for people struggling to expand their families. With work and kids I am stretched but this is important to me and has been helpful to those attending. I'm just behind this week and trying to prep for the session tomorrow evening and short on time. I know how difficult the struggle is and so while my life is hectic I know others are going through just as much stress if not more than I am right now. Again, I know where you may be coming from so not going to fight you. This board was incredibly supportive while I was struggling and I think/hope most will recognize when someone is trying to do something good and pay it back/forward. Best of luck to you. It's hard I know. |
OP here. Got it. Many thanks again! |
| Then you need to present real facts, not one person's experience. For treatments, it depends on heath insurance. |
OP here. Yes agreed. Folks are bringing their insurance benefits summary which we will go over but many employer plans don't offer coverage these days so looking at all options and just trying to get a quick sense of other experiences in addition to my own dated experience with insurance that is no longer applicable. Found some good stuff on the MD plans on the health exchange as it's currently open season. To the poster who inquired about that - both Kaiser and Blue Cross do offer coverage. I've put in a request to speak to a broker tomorrow to make sure I am understanding the plan benefits correctly. |
|
I posted upthread about my IVF costs with my own eggs and with donor. All of that was OOP - I had no insurance coverage.
OP, it would be great if you could share the name of the broker if he or she turns out to be good. Thanks! |
