Can someone better versed in VYSA rules help me out? Long story short, my U11 currently has 15 players on their team. They plan to add an additional player in the near future. I was wondering if there are any limits on roster sizes? It would seem that we cap out our roster at 16 players based on this link: http://www.vysa.com/registration/51518.html
Is my interpretation correct? |
Yes. |
I'm a fan of smaller rosters in general, but is there a problem here that you are driving at? There is no rule being violated so what's the big deal? |
| No problem, just wondering what the max is. We have had numerous players trickle in since the season started in August, and I was hoping this would be the last player to be added as we already have issues with everyone getting a decent amount of play time (which will get significantly worse during futsal). |
Gotcha |
| U11 should be maxed out at about 13-14, this ensures you have a balance of playing time and enough fresh legs to compete in tournaments. 15-16....you start loosing that on field synergy if you sub too much or you have bench warmers which isn't good for anyone. |
What we have going on are bench warmers, and agree that's not good for anyone. I think the coach's plan is to hopefully attract more players so that at U12 two teams can be formed, but I'd be surprised if any of the bench warmers returned. I am fortunate in that my DS plays almost the entire game, but am frustrated because this is a small club that we ultimately went with because it touted its focus on development. Coach said he wants to develop players and winning is secondary. If that's the case, why does the same player take literally every penalty kick (granted, he is good and seldom misses)? If that's the case then why hasn't my DS - or any of the other players - ever rotated positions during our 8 games and 2 tournaments? Sorry for the vent. I do realize I signed up for this.

The definitions of what development means to coach and parent aren’t from the same dictionary. You would think you would not have to have that discussion. |
Have you asked the coach if your player could have a chance to do some of the things/play positions he hasn't so far? Maybe he/she has been on autopilot since players have fallen into roles. A hint might spark some further thought. |
| When the team moves to U13 and there are 11 on the field, having 16 players isn't a bad thing. Better to train that new player starting at U11 and not 2 years later if they are developmental. |
OP here. We did discuss that with the coach. His answer that perhaps on another team the players would be in different positions, take the PKs, etc, but that on THIS team he has placed the players where the best belong. |
| So the coach isn't rotating positions and Pigeonholeing kids at U11? Great |
That's exactly what is happening. My son was very unhappy but has gotten better at making the best of things until spring rolls around and we decide what to do. |
| Can you speak to the technical director about this issue? |
