So, after reading a bunch of posts, I thought it is "normal" to be throwing up starting around week 7. I am now at week 12 and the vomitting continues. I have taken some Zofran on a need be basis but I am started to get worried. I am weak and tired.
I have not had a normal meal in over a month and have lost about 5-7 lbs of my pre-pregnancy weight (I am a petite smaller than average person starting at 107 lbs). There are days when I just stay in bed and sip some gatorade. Although the doc told me the baby will take all the nutrition it needs, I still worry. Even when I manage to eat a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, 6 hours later it all comes up. I worry that the vitamins I take don't stay down either. I don't consider myself a complainer but at what point do I call the doctor again (I was there at week 9 and will be there at the end of this week). Does any one have similar experiences? Advice? I am worried.... THANKS! |
I hate to give you bad news, but I was SICK as a DOG the 1st 20 weeks of my 1st pregnancy. I lost 12lbs in the 1st 2 trimesters. It was miserable, I felt like i had a horrible disease.
Now with my second, I'm only 4 weeks and not sick yet--I'm PRAYING this does not happen again b/c this time I have to care for a toddler. |
Yeah, I'm sorry to say that mine went on for a long time, too (18 weeks. Not quite as bad as the poster above!). BUT, it all ends quite suddenly so it might be just around the corner for you. Hang in there. It's all worth it. |
For me it lasted until week 16. I too lost a lot of weight and was surprised that my doc didn't seem concerned at all. If you can keep water down, you're probably fine. However, dehydration is dangerous. If you can't even keep water or ginger ale down, you may need to be hydrated.
Just keep your doc informed. Good luck to you - it is miserable! |
I'm not a doctor, but I was on Zofran for a while. If you can't keep food down, then you should be taking Zofran pills 2 or 3 times a day until you feel like you can wean yourself off of it by taking 1/2 pills or less frequent doses. It doesn't sound like you are taking it often enough if you are in bed sipping Gatorade. Its meant to make you able to eat and drink at least somewhat normally. I had to take it from about 9 weeks until about 16 weeks. Maybe you should call your doctor and ask if you should be taking Zofran more regularly?
Anyway, feel better - for most people it really does end eventually. |
I also had morning sickness that lasted forever and I lost several pounds in the first trimester. The nausea only started to subside around week 16/17, but even now (at week 20), my eating situation is not back to normal. But the one thing that always has helped is trying as hard as possible to keep my stomach full. I know this is sometimes impossible but if you can force yourself to continuously munch on Saltines or anything else that appeals to you, I think you'll feel a bit better. Also, I found that I was able to eat a little bit more easily when I was eating with someone. Somehow the conversation distracted me from the food and I was able to get at least a few bites down. I know how miserable morning (all day) sickness can be -- but know that there is a light at the end of the tunnel, trust me. |
The good news is that in most cases it goes away!
I threw up at least once a day and gagged several times a day from week 7 to week 14-5 (and at least once every time I got in the car). It feels like it will never end, but for most people it does. So my advice to you is to hang in there and try to convince yourself that you'll probably be back to normal soon. Some things that helped me were forcing myself to take walks (unfortunately interrupted by the occasional gagging), taking my prenatal vitamin with dinner instead of breakfast, and sucking on ginger candy (they sell them at World Market -- GinGins) or peppermint candy canes. Also, it helped to feel like I had something in my stomach at all times -- like crackers or almonds. Grapes (chilled in the fridge) were also really refreshing and help to keep you hydrated. Apple sauce (which I never really ate before) was also nice to eat. Good luck!!! I hope it goes away soon. |
I threw up until week 16 with 2nd baby. lost 15lbs. He is fine, it did suck!! I really hate throwing up and why the hell they call it morning sickness is beyond me, mine was 24 hours a day/night. Some people to get sick the whole pregnancy, and the babies are fine. good luck |
