HSG with anesthesia

Is it normal to have this test under anesthesia?

I don't think so. I think I took a couple of ibuprofen ahead of time. I didn't feel a thing.

No
I did go under to have a uterine bioposy. Not everyone does that.

I had 100% blockage of both tubes and the worst I felt was uncomfortable and super crappy. No need.

I had an HSG with no type of anesthesia and it was fine, it felt like menstrual cramps but it was overall no big deal at all. In contrast, I had an endometrial biopsy done which my OB told me should be no big deal at all and that most women say the HSG is worse - and I couldn't even tolerate it, they had to stop the procedure before the catheter even got in because I was screaming. So not sure what the difference there was! But rest assured, I'm obviously a wimp with that kind of stuff and the HSG was nothing.

You should be able to get through HSG without anesthesia.. it was very uncomfortable but for me it’s better than paps test..

No, anesthesia is not typical for an HSG.

Some people are barely bothered by it and or others it's significantly more uncomfortable. But it's relatively brief.

I was pretty uncomfortable, and had a bit of pain, but I likened it to a bad mammogram. Try not to worry about it too much.

Do you normally do okay with a pelvic exam? I get a lot of anxiety with pelvic exams, and took a low dose of Ativan for my HSG.

The actual pain was very, very minimal, but it was helpful for me to have something to take the edge off the ick factor that I get from anything with a speculum.
