Early Voting Observations

Anonymous
I (early)voted yesterday in a MoCo, MD location around 7 pm. I was surprised to see the amount of advertisement signs as we pulled into the parking lot. I had never seen this much yard signs ever. In addition, several local level candidates were standing and talking to people. That's new for a midterm early voting.

The parking lot was full (waited to park) and there was a long line. I waited about 20 min in the line to vote. The people working there said, the location has been crowded pretty much every day (some times are more so than other). We still have 2 days of early voting left.

If you voted early, what did you see?

I voted in Anne Arundel county. Very red precinct in south county.

There were lots of signs and canvassing in the parking lot. Once I got inside and was waiting in line, an old woman was walking up and down the line of people waiting asking who they were voting for governor. Most people ignored her, but the lady next to me said "Hogan", and this woman then proceeded to tell her she was voting for a Trump supporting racist who hated Muslims and "Mexicans".

I told her there was no electioneering within 100 feet of the building, and that she needed to leave. She then called me a racist, too, and continued down the line of people with her schtick.

When I got inside the voting area, I told an election judge what she was doing, and she just shrugged and said "yes, people have been complaining about her all morning, we'll look into it".

When I came back outside in the hallway after voting, she was gone. Dunno where she went.

I would've recorded her doing this, except there were signs displayed that prohibited any recording or photos within a polling location. Rules mean things to me, unlike her, I suppose.

I hope she runs into someone who doesn't appreciate her tactics, and physically shows her the door.

Elections are exiting times and prognosticating results is fun but considering how emotionally absorbing these events for are for Rep and Dem alike, I recommended just waiting until the votes are counted.

inside the actual room is usually where you shouldn't be taking photos/videos. Unless the 100 feet rule also applies to cameras? I'm not in MD, so it could be different.

It sounds like she is doing this of her own volition. Definitely should be escorted away, but maybe they don't have the manpower.

I know there have been some incidents at the fairfax government center with a specific R volunteer. He has been reported to the county committee because he's harrassing voters, which is NOT their job. It is to hand out ballots and be polite.

Definitely should've recorded her, no matter what the sign banning filming or pictures said. Some rules need to be broken in cases like this. Do you think a lib would hesitate to break a law like that if a republican were inside berating people about their vote?

Then again, even if there was video of it, no tv station would be interested in it anyway, so it would likely end up being for nothing...

Two things you could have done. You could have called the non-emergency police number and told them that you were being harassed at the polling site by an old, possibly senile woman and the election staff would not stop her from harassing you.

I probably would have stepped to the nearest door, stepped outside but held the door open and recorded her on my phone from there. Then I would have sent the video to one of the local TV stations about being harassed by electioneering inside the polling place.

Just came from the Lawton Center in Chevy Chase. Totally crowded, took about 45 minutes.

Or, you could've just voted for Jealous, in which case that would've proved that you in fact weren't a racist.

But it sounds like PP voted for hogan, which of course proves just the opposite.

But somehow the Republicans are the ones who are uncivil. What a joke.

I voted in VA weeks ago, on a weekday after work. It was quiet, no waiting. Outside there was a live person handing out blue sample ballots, and a stack of red ones under a brick.
