Cute shoes for wide, hard-to-fit feet

Anonymous
because I'm getting sick of Ecco and Dansko. Are there any chic shoes out there for a woman with caveman feet?

Have you been to Zappos? You can search by width to see what is available in your size.

Try Stuart Weitzman. I have "duck" feet. I found a great saleslady at Bloomingdale's that introduced me to these shoes. I have heels, sandals, etc. Ever now and again I try on the 'in' shoes -- ie. Tory Burch and always go back to Stuart.

OP - You need to tell me your size and width. Many stores and online sites have cutoffs at certain sizes.

I have wide feet and wear a size 10. I found Franco Sarto two years ago. They seem to run a little wider than a normal shoe. They are really comfortable and moderately priced. Nordstrom carries them.

i have found nice wide shoes from rockport. and payless.

OP, your size is hard. It is right at the cutoff. Many store carry up to size 10 but don't do wide. Some stores with exceptional service can order special sizes for you - talk to the DM. Also shop a season early and go to trunk shows and get your sizes then.

The economy has cut inventory levels and the first things to go are N and W widths, plus the smallest and largest sizes.

You can also have shoes custom-made. Not as expensive as you think. Once they have a mold, it's very easy. For some, it's a godsend and saves mucho time and frustration.

PP here. Sometimes you can also bump up half a size for fit. Depends upon the person's feet.

OP here. Thanks for all the feedback! Actually my size is 9 if I'm buying a wide cut or 9.5 if I'm buying regular width. My problem is not so much the length or even just the width, but I also have a high instep and flat feet. And narrow ankles, although that's the least of my worries.

I'm interested in Stuart Weitzman, so I'll check that out, and yes, I do buy from Zappos, which is wonderful. I'm especially curious to hear if anyone with crazy hard-to-fit feet ever has success wearing the trendy brands. Will I ever be able to wear Tory Burch, Christian Louboutin, etc, etc, or should I just head straight for Stuart Weitzman and thank my stars that at least there's one brand of stylish shoes that works?

I think, BTW, that it's the high instep that's the real dealbreaker. Many lovely strappy things shred my feet.

The European designers cut much smaller, in part because European women tend to be smaller on average and have smaller feet. Blahnik and Louboutin - have to bump up at least half a size. Best to stick with Weitzman, Donna Karan, Tory Burch - American designers.

Try www.endless.com They have a pretty good selection, and free shipping and returns on most items. I have VERY wide feet and a high instep, and I've found Franco Sarto shoes to be a good fit, especially if you can get them in a wide width.

Stuart lover here. I heard Gucci may be a good "fit" for us. But I haven't had the urge to splurge yet. I have also heard Tyran Rose (sp?) are suppose to be really comfortable. Let me know what you find.

It's Taryn Rose - an orthopedic surgeon who now designs shoes that are not supposed to damage to feet. Very comfortable but can be frumpy. Can find at Nordstrom's, Neiman's and a number of upscale stores.

Keen's, Puma, some Bed Stu, Birkenstocks, Halfiger, Steve Madden can actually run a bit wider sometimes (but the length seems to have gotten shorter), Rocket Dog. I am pretty "earthy" though and generally do not wear heals ( I look like a moron walking in them!). When I do have to get dressed up, I agree on Stuart Weitzman.

Has anyone found really good wide flats? The only pair I own that have ever fit me well are from Target.

I wish I could find some flats! But with my wide and huge feet nothing fits right. I have bought a few pair but they end up being a waste.

I agree about Puma. They do run wider but shorter!
