Looking for laptop recommendation - FCPS high school student

My daughter's old Mac is about to bite the dust, so we're looking for a replacement. I keep hearing about Chromebooks, but aren't they fairly limited? We're definitely not looking for another Mac, so it's between a Chromebook and a Windows-based laptop. Any suggestions or advice? Thanks!

Don't get a Chromebook, they are cheaply made and don't have full capability like a regular laptop.

A lot of high schools are going 1:1 next year so your child will have their own laptop issued by the school. Students will need to use those laptops and bring them to school each day because they will be used for testing.
