| I am sure this has been asked before and I did search but couldn't get a straight answer.. My 16.5 mo old has never received her seasonal flu shot before, therefore she will need 2 doses as well as 2 doses of the H1N1. I am unable to get a seasonal flu shot appt at my drs so can she get the H1N1 first and then the seasonal second? I know there doesn't need to be spacing as there needs to with the mist but I am concerned with the order. thanks for any help |
| It's my understanding that the order doesn't matter at all. Quite frankly, MOST (not all) seasonal doesn't come until Jan/Feb so it would make more sense to get the H1N1 now anyhow. |

I have heard from a friend of mine who is a nurse that the recommendation is to prioritize getting the H1n1. Reasons are that seasonal flu is not really circulating right now and most current flu cases are h1n1. Also, h1n1 seems to be hitting younger population harder, i.e. higher risk of complications/severity in youth w/ h1n1.
That said, order doesn't matter as pp said, although if you get seasonal flu mist (LAV) then you can not immediately get h1n1 flu mist (also LAV) you must get injectable h1n1 instead or wait a certain amount of time (21 days to a month) in between. That's only important because it seems that some jurisdictions don't have as much injectable h1n1 mist/LAV. It's easy to find injectable seasonal flu mist. If your pediatrician doesn't have it try CVS or another walk in practice or call your local school system and ask if they have a walk in clinic. |
| Thanks for your help. She is getting seasonal flu injection this morning and we are going to Wilson tonight for H1N1. Won't be a happy day for baby but mom will feel a sense of relief. Thanks again for your reply. |
