Love the school, not sure about professionalism. Teachers don’t participate in professional development or have degrees in elementary education or child development. Also not a lot of kids accepted for third grade that aren’t faculty or alumni related. Heard it’s very insular too. Is this true? And hate to resurrect old question from old post but they have a good point—what’s the deal with not having a school nurse? Chances of getting into third grade slim. Thoughts? Applying for grade 3. |
Discussed ad nauseam last year. Doesn't sound like the right fit for you. |
OP- I was surprised when I read the very end of your post. I thought you were someone who was applying out. |
If you're concerned about teaching, community, and health and wellness-what is working for you about the school? I guess it's a matter of weighing those positives and seeing if they are greater than perceived negatives. |
How the annual hit posts on The Heights evolve in terms of complaints:
1. No school nurse. 2. No education degrees. 3. Weird Opus Dei vibes/insular. 4. Hangout for people who love to MAGA. 5. Parents/kids drink way too much. I think we are due for a #3 post right about now... |
I think their are parents hoping they will address some of this stuff. |
Right, but aside from the first two, the complaints aren't true according to those who actually have kids at the school. And the school is all-in on liberal arts, they don't care about education degrees. |
First two are the most important. They should adress them as those are things they can control. |
Many private schools don’t require teachers to have teaching degrees or certification. |
No nurse is a red flag. Basically a non starter if your kid has food allergies, asthma, diabetes, heart condition, adhd and the list goes on. My guess is they do not want a male nurse since they have all male staff. |
They have female staff. All male faculty. |
That sounds so bad. |
Lol re the nurse. Son went there a year. Left happy but crossing the river was too much of a pita. Busted arm playing. Normal boy activity. When I picked him up from the “trainer” he had a chunk of sod hanging off his head. Consistent with the schools philosophy that boys will never become men accustomed to risk/reward decisions unless they have been exposed to risk. |
The Heights has a very good soccer team this year. Ranked # 2 in the area. Should win the WCAC. |
+1. It is currently ranked 33 nationally. |
