Poll: sink or more counter space in laundry room?

Anonymous
We are building a laundry room in our basement that will be a small L shape. We have a top loader because I love my washer and don’t want a front loader so we will be limited on folding/counter space.

I’m trying to figure out how often I’d miss having a sink nearby. Do you use your laundry sink often?

So would you rather;

1. A sink in laundry with a very small countertop

2. No sink in basement laundry room more counter space.

Thanks!

No sink. The counter space will be used with every load when you fold. The sink will hardly be used. Think about it - if you spill something on clothes, you run to the nearest sink. You can soak in a tub on top of the counter the few times you might need it.

I never use the sink in my laundry room.

We have a big utility sink and I use it all the time. Not so much for laundry but for things like washing out paint brushes when the kids were little and painting, or other things like that. I don't fold the laundry in the laundry room. I also have top loaders for the 2 washers (lots of kids) and dryers.

Sink. I'd hate to not have a utility sink.

I'd vote for sink. You can always add folding or counter space with shelving, a folding table, bench, or some other add in piece.

I use the utility sink all the time. Soaking laundry, mop bucket, craft cleanup, muddy shoes. I even wash the dog in it. Only you know what you need, though.

Counter space!

Can you have a dink with some kind of fold-down shelf option over it?

Our laundry room is on the top floor and we opted to put the utility sink in the basement instead. I fold the laundry on the bed in the guest room. I don't think I'd want to stand in a small room and fold. We almost never use our utility sink, but sometimes contractors do so I'm glad it's in the basement and not on our bedroom level. I wish we had more room to hang clothes to dry in our laundry room.

Sink with a piece of countertop that fits over it.
I use my sink all the time. I'd hate to be without it.

Depends on how you do things. If you fold in the laundry room, opt for the counter space. We fold in front of the tv. I can’t imagine not having a utility sink, but mileage varies.

I would never use a utility sink. I would prefer a shelf but mostly so I could have more cabinet storage beneath it.

+1

Why not both?

Sink, but we DIY and use the sink regularly for all sorts of stuff.
