Dionne Reeder is trying to unseat Elissa Silverman from a DC Council At-Large position due to Silverman's sponsoring of DC Paid Family Leave law. However, Reeder does not have a plan of her own. What kind of candidate does not have a plan for her main campaign issue?

At this point it is obvious that Reeder is simply being used by the business community and Mayor Bowser to punish Silverman. There is no intention to seek a modified family leave law, but only to take a scalp because they are upset with Silverman. |
| I completely agree. I am voting for Silverman because I like her, but even if I didn’t, I would be voting for her because I think there should be checks and balances in DC government and Reeder is such an obvious pawn of Bowser. We already get enough of that with Grosso. |
| Totally agree! |
|
I don't like Silverman but am voting for her for the same reason.
|
| Completely agree. |

Reeder doesn't need a plan because the idea itself is bad. DC needs less "let's solve the social problems of America" policies that put DC at a competitive disadvantage and give the bill to DC residents and businesses.
I'm voting for Reeder because she has run a small business. Experience sorely lacking on the DC Council which ranges from Bolshevik to Menshevik. |
+1. That paid family law gives a huge benefit to out-of-DC residents on the backs of DC businesses. Has anyone on the Council ever ran a business before? Ever sweated how to make a payroll? |
That's the nature of labor laws. The DC minimum wage law applies to non-residents as well and DC businesses pay for that. If you don't want DC businesses to pay for family leave, it means that you don't want paid family leave. That's a valid position if that is your position, but just be clear about it. Reeder claims to support paid family leave, but has no plan of her own. The Russian word you are looking for is "Potemkin". She is faking her support for paid family leave. |

In the most recent fundraising period, three-quarters of her fundraising came from 87 donors who gave the maximum $1,000. She received contributions from a plethora of developers, including $1,000 each from Norman Jemal, John Akridge and Adam Weers of the Trammel Crow company. Silverman, who declines corporate campaign contributions, relies more on small donors. About 70 percent of her latest haul came from people who gave $250 or less. |
I'm not philosophically opposed to paid family leave, but I don't see it as a labor law as much as a fringe benefit. |
Split whatever hairs you like, but it is a law that effects employees. Just like DC's minimum wage. |

This race is getting increasingly nasty. I really don't understand why the Mayor and Reeder rely on Josh Lopez so much. I've met Josh many times and he has generally been a really nice guy. But I've also seen him quickly display a nasty side. He literally held the megaphone while a Nation of Islam member called Silverman a "fake Jew". One would think he would be on his best behavior with regards to Silverman if he is attempting to show contrition for that episode, but if anything his behavior is getting worse. Just look at this latest Post story:

Both Reeder and Bowser need to ask Lopez to stand down. He reflects negatively on both of them. |
| I agree. This whole race has gotten out of hand. Mayor Bowser does not want any check on her role as mayor. |
| Agree with the initial post and think Silverman is an important check on Bowser (even though I don’t agree with everything Silverman does). |
I agree. And it sounds like Silverman is learning from her mistakes: https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/dc-politics/backlash-to-elissa-silvermans-dc-council-first-term-fuels-campaign-to-unseat-her/2018/11/01/86cf32b2-dd2a-11e8-85df-7a6b4d25cfbb_story.html?utm_term=.cf87519f1ae6 |
