Books at bookstores

Why do I want to buy a ton of books when I walk into a bookstore but usually walk out of the library with only a handful, even though they're free. Am I sucker for the displays? So many seem interesting enough to peruse, library ones less so.

It’s the excitement of the purchase!

You should go to the Friends of the Libary bookstore and report back. Most of their books at $3. The store in Rockville has a great selection.

Beats me. I never buy books at bookstores and have to stop myself from taking out more than I can comfortably carry home from the library.

I keep a list on my phone of books I want to read and then reserve them at the library and go pick them up.

Probably haven't bought a book in over a decade, but read 1 or 2 a week.

I buy books at thrift stores for $1 or so then donate them back when I am finished.

One of my favorite things is a fresh, new, crisp, clean book from the bookstore.

The smell of the new pages! Ahhh!

I go into the bookstore to see what I'll order from Amazon...

OP. I don't buy the books. Lol. But I sure have the urge to purchase piles of them.

Ugh. Please support small, independent bookstores.

+1

Between NY Times reviews, Goodreads recommendations, and "hot new [season] release" posts on FB, I always have a ton of "To Read" ideas listed on my Goodreads app.

I'm at the library weekly (kids' books) and rarely at bookstores. Though when I am, I do jot down the books that look appealing so I can get/reserve them at the library.

Yes! I totally agree with this.

If I'm going to buy, I'd much, much rather support independent bookstores.

I would support them but there are none in the Bethesda/Potomac area (unless I am just not seeing them). Thus - Amazon Bookstore it is.

Now, if you are traveling into DC -
Politics and Prose is wonderful
Upshur Street Books is great
