Pregnant after miscarriage?

Anonymous
I am TTC after miscarriage on 1/1/08 ( happy new year, right? ) I had my first period almost exactly four weeks after the miscarriage - so on 1/30/08. I was always very regular pre-miscarriage and had 29 day cycles each month. I am now a few days late and took a HPT test today. It was negative. However, I feel pregnant - REALLY tired, had to run out of church due to nausea this morning, headaches, etc. This is my second baby, so I remember what it felt like the first time and the symptoms are similar to my current physical state. Can I be imaging it? Should I go to the doctor or wait a few days to take another HPT? I know the blood test at the docs office can tell much sooner than the HPTs can.

Or, maybe, my cycle is just off after the miscarriage. Anyone with experience? Thoughts?

Thanks!

Your cycles can definitely be off after a miscarriage. Mine were completely off with cycle length AND ovulation varying widely (though I was regular before). So yes, it is possible that you could be pregnant ....maybe you ovulated around day 14 - if that's normal for you - maybe five days later for example.... so both options are still possible I'd say, either that your period if off and a few days late or that you are pregnant and the HPT is not picking it up yet.

I'd way a few days see how you feel and then get a blood test at the doctor's office.

I always found that when I was TTC I'd notice pregnancy symptoms every month. It seems when i wasn't TTC I never noticed my PMS symptoms...but once you start the TTC game everything that was probably PMS related I imagined as pregnancy related.

I would recommend waiting a few days and doing a pee stick test before going to the doc. Ad PP noted, your cycle will be off....as your hormones are getting back to "normal". My doc also recommended waiting three cycles before TTCing again to give body change to get back and increase chance of success of potential pregnancy.

I hope you will be pg soon and it will all work out!

I really have nothing to add other than I had a miscarriage on 12/31/07, so you weren't alone. My cycles have been a little off. My first was short, and my second long. I haven't had pregnancy symptoms at all. If I were in your shoes I'd probably at least make an appointment to go in. I'm going to start TTC this month. Good luck to you.

I had one sort of positive test, then two negative... turns out I was pregnant. Trust how you are feeling.

This is the OP here, I went in today for a blood test at the docs office. I threw up this morning and felt completely nauseated for two hours this morning. I get the results tomorrow. Maybe I'm sick - who knows? But, we'll find out soon! I'm crossing my fingers - please cross yours for me too?

Any news, OP?

definitely get checked out. I got pregnant after a miscarriage but didn't have a period. This happened within two weeks of the miscarriage--a wonderful blessing.

Hi, OP here. It was negative I'm sad, but going to keep trying! I guess I am just having a very long cycle and maybe my mind was giving me pregnancy symptoms because I wanted it so badly. Much thanks for your support and advice! Good luck to you all too!

I don't know, if it helps you can chart to figure out when you're ovulating. It helped me after my miscarriage BUT it can also be too much information - depends on what works for you relaly.

This is 11:01 here. I'm so sorry for the negative. On a positive note, your body will get another month to recover and get stronger. Good luck next month. I'm right there with you.

OP here again - thank you all and good luck to each of you as well! It's scary after a miscarriage and I was very much hoping to be pregnant but it will happen at the right time, as I'm sure it will for you all too. Best wishes!

Just an FYI, my OB told me I didn't have to wait three months after a miscarriage - I didn't have a D&C and was only 6 weeks along when I miscarried. After my pregnancy hormones returned to zero, he said I could try again right away and that part of the reason OBs tell their patients to wait is due to not being able to date the pregnancy. ( I am guessing this is when there are no complications with the miscarriage and its an early one )

Obviously, everyone should follow their doctor's orders but I'm just giving my doctor's perspective on my specific case.

Good luck!

I had a missed micarriage at 9 weeks of pregnancy. I had D&C on the 9 of February . I have always had regular periods, so 4 weeks after the D&C I had my first period. It lasted longer then usual, but everything was OK. We decided to try again for a baby. I bought some ovulation tests and when the 2 lines appeared we had several intercourses. I thought I was pregnant, because before the missed I got pregnant on the first try. However, nothing, my period came again...
