Oops, that was recommend.

We saw Dr. Lichter for both metabolism and genetics issues. I think she is very knowledgeable but her bedside manner leaves something to be desired. But that is her specialty (metabolic issues). Not everyone in the Genetics and Metabolism dept specialize in metabolism, so make sure you get one who does specialize in metabolic disorders. It takes less time to get an appt. for a metabolic disorder than a genetic disorder. |
| Thanks 22:00. |

(poster who saw Dr. Lichter)
What test came back with abnormal bloodwork? Our child's organic acid urine test came back 4 times abnormal. Different doctors disagreed on whether this was a metabolic disorder or he was starving himself. turned out to be a behavioral eating disorder, rather than a metabolic disorder. Dev ped thought it was that our child was starving (he was). Neurologist thought it might be a metabolic disorder, so the metabolic specialist. Feeding Clinic at children's diagnosed son with an eating disorder where child cannot understand fullness and hunger. If he is hungry, he eats just enough to take the edge off without filling himself up like other kids. It is the help from the feeding clinic which is helping with our child who starves himself, and has since we adopted him at age 7 months. He is too busy and curious to eat. Now he has a highly regulated schedule (eating and sleeping) which helps with this disorder. I can smell when he is starving (breath smells like acetone). We have used ketostix to confirm secreting ketones, (it is the same as when I smell his breath). There is only one other person I know who can smell the acetone on my child's breath, so not many people can. that is why there are ketostix. |
