| Thinking a bit ahead of time, but I'd like to consider putting DS (will rising 2nd grader) in a special needs or inclusion camp. The skills he needs to work on are motor planning, fine motor, and social skills. The idea camp would have a lot of work on pragmatics, and do a lot of swimming instruction. He's very socially motivated but can have emotional regulation issues or withdraw when over-stimulated. Ideas? |
| Most of these camps will not be good for swimming. Do year round swim classes at least 2 a week, if not more or a private lesson and practice in-between. |
| What's your location? |
| Check out Camp SuperNOVA- no swim instruction but lots of social skills! |
Try JCC. |

Camp Aristotle is good for social skills and emotional regulation. They don't have swimming.
Some OT places do camps for motor skills. We did one at Fitness for Health but we found that it was not as helpful as actual therapy. |
| +1 on Camp Aristotle (at Auburn). It does the social end very well, though not the swimming. The Lab School has a pool and does (or did) run a camp that includes a lot of physical OT. We found it wasn’t what we needed on the emotional end, but that may have been just us, and in any event it was a long time ago, so it’s probably worth your checking it out. |
| Leaps and Bounds meets all your goals, including swimming. |

Lab school's camp is supposed to great. I know there is an OT component and I think social skills too.
A lot of OTs run camps. It's been so long I don't remember the names. We didn't end up using them. |
| No swimming, but our child had a great experience at TLC's camp in Rockville. I have also heard very good things about the camps through the JCC. |
| Maybe Lab School? https://www.labschool.org/page/ot-2018-summer |
OP here! I am interested in Lab, but is it more geared to kids with language/reading support needs? Language is actually one of his strong points. |
