When do you send kids back to school after un-dx'd flu?

Is it 24 hours after the last episode of fever + symptom free for 24 hours, *or* 7 days after the onset of symptoms? The latter is new, I'd never heard that being used as a guideline before. My little guy is starting his 24 hours symptom free period today, after 4 days of being sick and my daughter is starting her journey into sickdom.

CDC says 24 hours fever free or a week, whichever is longer. Hope everyone feels better soon.
