Spacing out Flu and H1N1 shots

Anonymous
Just wondering have any parents gotten their young children both the flu and H1N1 flu shots yet? If so, did you space them out at all? I know you don't need to space out the shots but ideally I would like to in order to minimize any possible reactions. It will be my sons first year getting the flu shot so he will need 4 shots. I'm a little nervous since he needs so many shots and 4 flu shots have never been given before. Also, do you know if you can space out the seasonal flu shot longer than a month apart and will it still be effective? He already got seasonal flu shot end of Sept. Our doctors are getting H1N1 next week so I wanted to get that next and ideally leave some space before he get the next shot. Any other parents experiences would be appreciated.

my 9 month old got his 2nd seasonal flu shot and his 1st H1N1 shot within 24 hours of each other. i wasn't real happy about the spacing but he seems to be fine.

Thanks. I think my son will have about a week b/w his 2nd seasonal flu and H1n1 shot. Hopefully that is spaced out enough.

I just called our doctor's office on this question. Was told that if the seasonal flu shot was the mist (ie, the live virus) then you must wait 30 days for H1N1, and that if the seasonal flu shot was the injection then you can have H1N1 right away.

OP. Dr. Sears' vaccine website says to wait a month between each shot, so for a kid needing 4 shots (my DD does too) it will take 3 months. For example, our will look something like this: Nov. 1 first H1N1, Dec. 1 second H1N1, Jan. 1 seasonal flu, Feb. 1 seasonal flu.

I wish we could have started seasonal flu earlier but our pediatrician ran out of the 1/2 doses for 6-36 month olds. H1N1 seems more pressing now, so we're doing that first. In January I'll reevaluate if I think it even makes sense for her to get the seasonal shot...it depends on whether or not "seasonal" flu actually goes around this year. There is some debate as to whether or not it will...

FWIW, our daughter got the 1st seasonal flu dose 2 weeks ago, and we were told at that time that it was fine to wait on the 2nd dose until her 2 year well visit in December, which would be a 2 month spacing between doses.
