DD swallowed a piece of (dried) nail polish

Took DD, 4.5, for a manicure today. I needed a manicure, and she tagged along and I let her just get her nails painted. At home we use a 5-free or 7-free polish, but at the salon she of course chose a bright sparkly color that was some random brand. Anyway, after we got home she came up to me and showed me one of her nails had chipped, and she had something in her mouth- I think she was biting her nail (which she typically doesn’t do) and a piece of the nail polish came off in her mouth. I tried to get her to spit it out, but she ended up swallowing it. It was probably about half the size of a (preschooler-size) nail. So, a small amount. But still, yuck- I know nail polish is so toxic. Googling suggests it’s not really a big deal, but has this happened to anyone else??

*sigh. You cannot be serious. On the off chance that this is real, two things (1) She will be fine and (2) You are in for a long 18+ years.

It’s not a big deal. She’s probably swallowed worse just by putting stuff in her mouth.

This kind of thing bothers me too, but what good will it do to worry about it now? You can't get it out of her. I'm pretty sure a lot of people have ingested nail polish over their lifetime.

I also have a 4 yo girl and we recently painted her nails, against my better judgment. It's all chipped and her hands are always in her mouth, so there's a good chance she ingested some too. I try to just paint her toes and only do fingers once in a blue moon. If I was more worried about it, I just wouldn't paint her nails again until she was much older.

It is fine. Take a Xanax.

Chill out.

OP here- thank you all! I mostly posted to get a reality check, which I now have!

The fumes are probably way more toxic. Did you worry about that?

Just FYI it’s not well-funded and it costs about $50 per call. If you do waste their time and resources, know that they do accept donations.

You tying up the line with nonsense means that someone with a real problem is on hold.
