We're moving to McLean next year and would love to hear about the public elementary schools there. Any thoughts on Churchill, Franklin Sherman, Chesterbrook or Kent Gardens?
Thanks! |
Kent Gardens has French immersion and is overcrowded. It has some very loyal parents, especially if their children are in immersion. Its gifted students can attend the GTC at Churchill ES. Its students attend Longfellow MS and McLean HS.
Franklin Sherman is a small elementary school that is almost finished with a renovation, and is the only split feeder in this group of schools. Most students attend Longfellow MS and McLean HS. A small percentage have to attend Cooper MS and Langley HS, which means that they leave almost all their elementary school friends. Its gifted students can attend the GTC at Haycock ES. Chesterbrook is a medium-sized school with "Local Level 4" classes, and had a renovation half a dozen years ago. Its students attend Longfellow MS and McLean HS. Its gifted students can attend the GTC at Haycock ES. Churchill ES' general education students attend Cooper MS and Langley HS. Churchill's GTC students generally attend the GTC at Longfellow MS. Then they attend Langley HS, TJ, the IB program at Marshall HS, and private schools. |
The bolded part is true for any of the above elementary schools. |
Thank you so much for this information!
If my child needs minor special needs services but qualifies for the GT program - would Churchill be a good place for her? Is it also overcrowded? |
If you're looking for diversisty by the way, you definitely won't find it at Chesterbrook (can't really speak to the other schools). I'm sure the websites will have the exact breakdowns, but it's very Caucasian/slightly Asian. It is a pretty good school however, and gets consistently good ratings--you can't really go wrong with any of the public schools in McLean....which is probably one of the reasons you're moving to McLean. ![]() |
There are quite a few trailers at Churchill (it's overcrowded) but, as trailers go, the ones at Churchill Road are nice. |
