DD struggling with 6th grade science

Anonymous
I didn’t study the periodic table, mass versus weight, protons, neutrons and electrons until 8th grade; DD is struggling to make sense of it all in 6th grade. How is your child doing with this material?

My DD is a current 7th grader who struggled a lot with the first quarter topics- it is a very heavy unit to start with. After the first quarter, it really eases up and the remaining 3 quarters are considerably easier.

Maybe find a middle school textbook that she can refer to? Or find some good online supplemental videos. Youtube is amazing. For Biology, I really like the Amoeba Sisters videos for middle schoolers and younger high schoolers. I'm not sure who the chemistry gurus are.

I found this resource: http://www.middleschoolchemistry.com/multimedia/

TED talk on periodic table: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fPnwBITSmgU

She might also enjoy the "Crash Course" series on Chemistry. Beware that the teacher of this series speaks very fast, but he is also very funny. She should watch his videos a few times to absorb everything.

Sorry to hear that! Does the teacher offer extra help during lunch?

Not sure if you're seeking resources, but if so, Khan Academy also has simple instructional videos.

I have a 6th grader who likes math/science, and he is really enjoying the chemistry unit.
