| If you had a strong girl player who has played two years of travel but wanted to switch teams due to part logistics and part coaching- would you pick Vienna, McLean or SYC? All feedback appreciated. |
I would probably pick McLean, because they have the strongest program out of the three clubs you are considering. You should also consider Great Falls Reston, which is close to McLean and Vienna and is a feeder to WS DA. |
I'd go with McLean. They have a long history of an excellent program and multiple level teams so that she can grow with the program. |
| I should add their ECNL is one of the top elite programs in NOVA. |
| There are a lot of kids who left McLean because of the coach. What are the problems she is having with the coach? |
| There is discussion on McLean ECNL thread about some players leaving for Washington Spirit DA and Arlington DA because of coaching issues. |
You need to consider what kind of financial investment you want to make and what your daughter is looking to get out of it, and how many other things is she trying do while playing soccer. Do you want the commitment that comes with ECNL and DA, or is being in a competitive VPL or NCSL team good enough? The right decision varies by parents & child --- its not one size fits all. |
As are the responses to that. Player movement is an ongoing subject and multiple ages, and there has been plenty of criticism of Washington Spirit DA in particular as well, over large rosters and other problems. Several elite players left them for FCV and BRYC ECNL as well, so let's just keep the lobbying and sales pitches out of this thread if at all possible. If anyone is interested in re-hashing what's going on, please do see those threads. |
That's actually a very good point. DA and ECNL, while 2 very good leagues, aren't right for everyone. It's a lot of money, time, and commitment involved. |

My daughter moved to Mclean this year from another CCL club. We've been really happy with the quality of the training.
It's a bit of a commute but looking at this fall so far I'm really happy we switched her. |
