I need an easy/quick Halloween costume for tonight - help!

I'm going to a party with my daughter actually -- but the parents are encouraged to dress up. I'll have about 30 mins to eat dinner and put on some sort of impromptu costume before I need to leave - so I need to wear something I already have at home.
I have overalls - so I thought I could just put those on and put my hair in pigtails and be a "farmer" but I'm not sure if people will know what I'm supposed to be. Any other ideas?? |

The list is kind of long and has some good and tacky suggestions. I like this one: * Wear all white. Attach (or paint) yellow circle to your stomach. You are an egg. Add horns and a pitchfork and you are a deviled egg. |

How about a chef? If you have an apron, you can wear that over your regular clothes and carry a whisk or wooden spoon or oven mitt.
Cowgirl is pretty easy too - jeans, plaid shirt, bandana around your neck, cowboy hat. |

Give yourself a black eye with make-up, and pin a "P" on your shirt. You are a black eyed pea.
Tap some hay or straw on your clothing (found at any nursery). Put a dinner roll on your shirt. You are a "roll in the hay." |

OP here - thanks for all the great ideas! Some of these are very clever - but I don't want to do anything that little kids won't understand (since it's a kids event really). Keep 'em coming - I have a few more hours to ponder...

I like the farmer. Can you wear a red shirt under your overalls and carry a stuffed pig or other farm animal?
Another idea is to be a bag of leaves. Wear a black garbage bag stuffed inside with newspaper with red and orange leaves coming out the top. Just scoop 'em out of the yard and tape them to the bag. If you want to accessorize, carry a small rake. Have fun! |

I've def. done the cowgirl one before. And if your hair is long, do two braids and be willie nelson.
I've also done jeans, white t-shirt, bandana horizontal around head and been Axl Rose. |
