Public meetings on the future of the Fairfax County Parkway

Some of the conclusions from the short term study seemed good - they want to improve some interchanges, and expand it and add other lanes. But they also may want to make HOT lanes - why? There are neighborhoods that let out right onto the parkway. Literally - they have no other options to travel around. How much money would HOT lanes on the parkway really raise? And what private company’s pocketbooks will be lined by the toll money? I’m hoping to attend one of the meetings and get some answers.

That is insane! The parkway is one of the few road systems that actually functions well. It is also a local road surrounded by residential areas and a lot of stoplights.

Thank you for posting this. I’ll definitely attend one of the meetings. I hope it’s not one of those situations where the outcome has already been determined, but they’re having meetings with the public to check a box.

FCP needs to be a toll road like the ICC or DTR. It's too important a potential revenue source to just let people use it for free. The county is literally throwing away hundreds of millions of dollars every year. Think what that money could do for schools? Or helping resource-challenged communities such as newly arrived immigrants.

Don't be stupid.

FC Pkwy is a road that runs through neighborhoods.

Entire neighborhoods such as the Saratoga area would be cut off from the rest of their town as the only way to go from the old Rolling road neighborhoods to West Springfield is via the parkway.

FC county Parkway is full of neighborhoods and shopping areas. With the exception of rush hour, all of the traffic on it is local, neighborhood traffic.

Creating HOV lanes and toll roads on that roadway is idiotic and stupid, particularly on the stretch of road from West Ox to Fort Belvoir and from 66 through Reston.

It is one of the only major roadway systems in northern Virginia that actually functions well.

A toll road would destroy it.
