Mother-daughter activity - pottery, cooking, readings, art?

Anonymous
Looking for a special activity to do with my 11 yo daughter this weekend. Was hoping to find a pottery class or cooking class, but couldn't find anything for less than $75pp which is too much. Open to any kind of class or interactive experience or even a book reading or special art exhibit. Thanks!

This is along the lines of pottery, but not as expensive. What about one of those places where you choose a piece and paint it? My DD loves that and it seems to vary between $15 and $30 for the pieces she chooses.

Are you in the DC area? I liked over the Xmas holidays, to let my kids each choose a museum they'd like to visit. I have them do a little research, so they get on the websites and read up on the exhibits, special events, etc. and pick.

I'm not sure where you are located but those paint-your-own pottery places (e.g., color me mine) are usually much less than $75/per person.

Thanks. We love those too - I totally forgot to mentioned we've done this so often already, we'd prefer something different. We are in Bethesda.

Are you in decent shape? You guys can go to a rope course at Sandy Spring.

Or wall climbing.

A couple of our Herndon/Vienna/Fairfax art galleries also offer one day art classes that are very reasonable; check those. Dave and Buster's is close to you, if she likes games like that. The zoo and apple picking are both great this time of year for outside.

+1...my 11 yo DD is not sporty but LOVES this. There's also 'Go Ape' in ..I think Rockville? Not cheap though...I think $35pp last time I went.

If you both like cooking pick a more complicated menu from a recipe book and help her make the grocery list from the recipe, go shopping together for just those things and come home and make it for the family. I did this with each of my kids over the summer and they loved it and learned a lot.

Paint muse in national harbor or mosaic district in NOVA. We’ve gone to a day or early evening class and A lot of my 6th graders friends do that with their moms as well. (We’ve given gift cert as gifts twice already.)
