I'm hoping for suggestions for a trusted psychiatrist who can prescribe, monitor, adjust and advise regarding anti-depressants?
I know it sounds ridiculously shallow (I've already confessed to being crazy, right?) but I am terrified of getting fat, and don't want to lose my sex drive either. I've been in talk therapy with someone I know well and have a list of names from that therapist, but would love to hear perspectives from fellow patients. Prefer NW DC or Maryland. Thanks in advance. |

Dr. Eliot Sorel in DC or Dr. Suzanne Griffin in Chevy Chase, MD (Wisconsin Avenue).
Both are good medication managers. Sorel takes Blue Cross. Griffin does not take insurance and does an extensive and long intake that is also very expensive. She is worth it if you feel like you need a long-term relationship with a doctor who will really take care of you. Sorel is also a good doc and does take insurance. Not all anti-depressants suppress sex drive or make you gain weight. You just need to be up front with your doctor about this goal and be ready to try a few things before you find what's right for you. It's not shallow at all --- the last thing a depressed person needs is a bad body image. |

I went to Dr. Richard Greenberg in DC. 202-785-1836.
I have been on antidepressants for almost 10 years now. I am yet to see one that doesn't impact your sex drive. It is very temporary however and worth it. If you are really depressed I doubt you feel like having sex anyway. At least I didn't. I think my sex drive is pretty healthy now and I'm still on Celexa. I gained my weight before I started Celexa. I'm an emotional eater and when I feel depressed I eat. I actually lost 40 lbs when I started feeling better as a result of taking the meds. There is nothing that says you have to gain weight if you watch what you're eating. |
