9-1 date

This means at least for southwestern ECNL league will use 9/1

Sounds to me like Rec will go school year but the more competitive leagues would stay Birth Year?
Rec is already mostly school year.

Competitive leagues is a very broad term but it clear, they will have choices and ECNL, etc. have been instigating the process to go school year.

Pre-professional is a curious one. Maybe MLS Next academies? Doesn't seem like this applies to any other group. And doesn't really seem to fit MLS Academies either.

Considering there are no true definitions to rec, travel, pre professional, and all segments get choices, the segmentation seems irrelevant.

Let's wait for 2/27 to see what ECNL plan will be. If it has absolutely no change on 25/26 and goes hard on 26/27, or allow certain changes on 25/26 to have a smooth transition to 26/27.

Would make sense since most SW states use 9/1 for school. Nevada might use 8/1 but I don't see why each state couldn't just use 8/1 or 9/1. Just allow tournaments to allow it based on state policy.

So do we think ECNL/GA/MLSN will allow each specific club to pick their own registration dates? I doubt that. Seems like the league as a whole would have to choose.

If U.S. Soccer is providing 3 options including SY 8/1 to 7/31 and SY 9/1 to 8/31, why not just allow flexibility for August birthday kids to play with their actual school year (some will be the oldest and some will be the youngest), and eliminate the trapped player problem for that cohort?

With JC soccer players now allowed to compete for two extra years before using ncaa eligibility will we see ECNL add and extra age group for young adults who did not get college offers or the offers they wanted to compete an extra year or two and still get the opportunity to be recruited?

You goto the 4 year you wanted play local ECNL U21 and try to get recruited and transfer schools.

Grad year incoming!

Just stating your guess as a fact, or actually relying on something?

I think it would be odd to go 9/1 with all the August birthdays being trapped- when 8/1 was used historically.

That really depends on what the ultimate goal is. Eliminate as many trapped players as possible. (Allowing choice) Or to pick a date that creates the least number of misaligned players.

At least all the people saying ECNL is staying BY have retreated into their respective corners…

I like the statement from US Soccer, and it makes sense with states having diffrent school cutoffs. But again why wait until 26/27? Because of one state (California?) Holding tryouts in January? Who holds tryouts in January? Why? Clubs DO NOT need 2 years to figure the registration process out. 8 months is plenty of time to transition into sy or whatever is proposed. Waiting is only going to create one toxic year of soccer 25/26 with poaching, playing time, parent drama, knowing q3 q4 kids are going to be sought after with an impending change to teams switching to sy.

By waiting will the clubs now focus on q3 q4 kids at tryouts this Spring and put them on A teams at a younger age for fall?

Take for example a 2013 Q4 kid who will be playing U13 and 11v11 next fall. Take the top Q3/Q4 players from 2013 and combine them with the top players from Jan-July 2014. Play on an U13 team- then you are already ahead of the curve with a team and have the stronger players
