For those whose family has had h1n1 - after initial symptoms, did you have improvement, then 2nd rnd

We have been dealing with this flu with our kids for the past few days.
1) Two days of fever (99-102), coughing, runny nose
2) now no fever coughing, runny nose
3) Should we expect things to get worse again?

Just wondering if there is any chance we are out of the woods.

I thought we were out of the woods after the first round but got hit again. The initial bout was the worst part for my 6 year old but round two had me on the mat. Good luck.

My DD (age 5) had a pretty mild first round. Second occurred 2 days later and it was miserable. Over 104 temps, didn't want to get out of bed, could barely walk. Awful. Lasted 4 days.

Darn, my two little ones have had low grade fever and runny noses for a few days. I keep thinking they just have a cold. I mean how can you tell what it is and how careful to be in keeping them away from everyone?

When my kids had what I think was the H1N1 flu (but never got tested so I can't be sure) both of them had pretty high fevers for a few days, lethargy, headache and stomache ache, and sore throat (but no significant cough or other respiratory symptoms); then seemed to get better (no fever) for about a day and a half, then the fever came back for about another 2 days. But aside from having the fever the second time around, I can't say that they were very sick or miserable, mostly just bored. The fever was about 100 - 101 in my older child, and 102 to 104 in my 4 year old. The first few days were the worst, I think because of the headache and stomachache and general lethargy.

OP here --- This is great information to hear from those "experienced". I think this is very helpful for those heading towards unchartered waters.

I will post our experience once we get through it.

For OP and others -- are you kids on Tamiflu?

Our DS (under 6 months) was prescribed Tamiflu after the "initial bout" and I HOPE he doesn't get a second round!

20:19 here. No, our ped. wouldn't prescribe Tamiflu for my dd.

OP here - Our pediatrician did not recommend. They advised to watch for breathing problems, blue lips, etc. as the events requiring stepped up care.

We have been simply pushing liquids, tylenol, and watching a lot of TV and DVDs.

So helpful to read-I didn't know about two rounds, and have been more worried/scared about a bacterial infection---our four year old son had been pretty sick with a high fever, stuffy nose, less energy for about four days--tested negative for H1N1 at the doctor's office. He was fever free from Friday evening until Sunday-now he has a low grade fever, and a headache, stomachache, lethargy---am going back to the doctor tomorrow.
I appreciate reading all the responses.

OP here for the final time. Our kids never got the second round. It has been 3 and 4 days clear of fever.

we just got hit with the flu - my dd is 2 1/2, she had a high fever on Sunday and yesterday a low grade fever. She slept most of yesterday. I have it also - fever in the range of 100, but no higher. I am also experiencing a very bad headache and awful body aches, as well as a cough. I'm hoping that we don't get round two also! Our Ped didn't recommend Tamiflu either. FWIW, she also said that this flu ( which we didn't get tested for swine ) has been a bit milder than last year's seasonal flu, at least the children that she has seen in the office.

Okay, I'm confused!!! Friday my 4 y/o was very sleepy and took an afternoon nap (unheard of!), with an evening mild fever (99.4). Saturday he was coughing and had a fever of 101; by evening he had 103.5. We were pushing liquid, Motrin, and cough suppressant (I know the debate). Sunday he cont'd the fever at 100-103, which we controlled with meds, lots of coughing and sneezing. That night into Monday his fever broke, coming to rest at 99.5 without meds. He stayed home from preschool yesterday and is home with me today.

My 7 y/o daughter woke up today with a sore throat, small cough, headache and fever. She is also home today.

Doctor said yesterday they did not need to see 4 y/o unless his fever continues into today (which it did not). So, I guess I just watch both kids to see if they develop the warning signs - because no one is rx'ing Tamiflu otherwise?

I had the flu symptoms (35 year old female) last week, along with my child. We both recovered, and then came down with the whole list of symptoms again two days later. The relapse was worse for me, but better for my child in terms of symptoms and fever.

This thing is a bitch.
