Health and Medicine
| my 2 yo got the shot at Wilson today. She freaked out with the nasal dose and so we opted for the shot, but in the chaos I forgot to ask what it was. The woman administering it explained that she was shooting out 1/2 of the med to get the right dose for her, so I am assuming it was prefilled. And from looking at the Dr Sears site it seems to be mercury free. BUT did anyone with a calmer situation (I had 4 kids with me) find out what they were giving? Thanks! |
| DC has a flu hotline, if no one responds you could probably call and ask what was distributed at Wilson. |
| They gave us a card with the info written on it. It has the brand and the lot number. Assume that can be tracked to what's in it? mine says Sanofi Pasteur UP010AA. |
| Just because she said it was half the dose does not mean it's from the pre-filled syringe. They can draw from whatever dose they need from the multi-dose vial. |
No, i know. But I saw her squirt out/"waste" half the syringe. So thats why I think it was prefilled. She never drew up from a bigger bottle. |
|
I highly doubt you got the prefilled syringe. But you can check your vac record to see (if it says sonafi it was not the single dose).
I was at Wilson on Saturday and specifically requested the pre-filled single use syringe for my 1 year old (I knew they had it because I am pregnant and got one myself). I was told that they did not have any of the prefilled syringes for the under 4 crowd (it is .25 of the syringe they had given me). I then countered and asked whether they could use .25 of the prefilled syringe and toss the rest. They said they would not do as it went against medical guidelines and was therefore not legal. You likely got the multi dose and they probably took too much initially when they made the individual syringe so 'tossed' the reminder. The prefilled would have been taken out of a box in front of you (there is no mistaking it). |
| OP here- I called the flu hotline and was put in touch with the Site Director for the Wilson Clinic. He confirmed that my daughter got the Novartis prefilled syringe and that she was given a half dose. They were very helpful. |
| Novartis is only approved for kids over 4. |
| OP, I really wouldn't stress about it at this point. |
|
OP- just look on the card they gave you. They are required to write down the shot type , lot number and manufacturer in case there is a reaction so that you can report it.
You should keep this with your child's records and show to her Ped. I just looked at mine (I'm pregnant and got the Novartis shot). The card clearly states Novartis. My preschooler also got the shot and his clearly states Sonafi. Hopefully if you can find your card, that gives you some peace of mind! If not, they can find your record (from the form you filled out) because they also have to record the information there. |
| PP-The whole reason I posted this question was because the woman administering the shot did not write anything on my daughter's card-- thanks though. |

There's even a flu forum as you scroll down! panic much? |

You should consider reporting it if they did not write down the shot info for you.
That is a major procedural breach of the government clinics. They are supposed to record every single vaccine dose distributed through the clinics so that they can track down the lot number if god forbid there is a bad reaction or a recall. While it won't help your situation which is over and done with at this point, at least perhaps if you make them aware of the breach they can better train their folks (or this specific woman) for future clinics so that no other parent runs into the same issue. Thanks for flagging the issue. Based on your note, I'll be extra aware when I head to the clinic this weekend with my DD! Thanks! |
| who should i report it to? |
| DC Department of Health...(they are in charge of running all the clinics) |
