Expectant and Postpartum Moms
| Ugh--such bad pregnancy acne. Does this go away by 3rd trimester? or am I stuck with it for the duration? |
| I had HORRIFIC acne starting around 6 weeks and peaking right around 12. I finally caved a bit and started using Proactiv once a day (it does not contain salicylic acid, unlike pretty much every other acne medicine out there that works). I wasn't willing to use it in the 1st trimester (just a nervous nellie), but noticed a huge difference after about 5 days. My main catalyst was that we are going to do a family portrait in a few weeks, and I didn't want to have to cake on foundation. I'm not sure if it would have started clearing on its own or not, but it's worlds better than it was! |
| If it is any consolation, my skin returned to normal by about the fourth month or so. |
| I have it too, I have all these whiteheads that I don't want to pop in case of scarring but I feel disgusting ... am only 9.5 weeks so I can't even explain it to people yet ... |
| Try Aveeno oatmeal soap. The one that is fragrance free and only about $2.00 at CVS. I think it states for "dry skin" but I do have oily skin and started using it this pregnancy and it cleared up my skin. |
| 38 weeks here and my skin just started to return to "normal" (with a lot of red acne scars that are fading with some OTC help). |
What OTC help are you using for the red acne scars? Thanks! |
| You can get laser to remove the acne scars ..,. that is what I am doing when this is all done! |
Maybe I will try that thanks. I have been using Glytone from my derm but I don't think it does much. |
Good idea- I need the works! Supposedly, you can get laser treatments while breastfeeding though. |
PP here: I meant to say 'CANNOT get laser treatments while breastfeeding'. |
Well I wouldn't recommend it then anyway as your hormone levels will still be up - I remember having terrible skin still when I was nursing and not getting much sleep with my 1st. Wait until you are done bf and your hormone levels are back to normal. |

I had worse acne while Bfing.
What's even worse is that I even got acne on my butt - WTF?? |
| OMG my acne was horrible. I had it on my jawline, neck, shoulders and back. I admit to being totally vain and that by far was the worst part of the pregnancy. It was really embarrassing. It didn't go away until after delivery, and when I was done bf'ing I had IPL to zap some of the scars. |

I had problem skin (under control w/ topical prescriptions) before getting pregnant. It's so much worse during, and now I can't even take my meds! My derm moved me to an erythromcin/benzoyl peroxide gel (class B) that's been helpful with the black/whiteheads but much less so with the cystic acne. Lots of water/fruits/veggies, really good sleep, and good exfoliation every other day make a noticeable difference. I'm going on my 5th month, and things have started clearing a bit.
Good luck! |
