Remember when the first thread was locked down at over 350+ pages?

Why was the first one locked down? Not because it got too large?

Too long

There are threads in other forums with over 1000 pages so that's not it. The last one just got too off topic.

When Jeff closed it, he said that the same poster had posted the recent comments. or something like that.

I think that we have now come to the place where there won't be too much new information. The purchase of KAA has spurred a lot of new speculation.

I do think they have to settle KAA before they go any further. I could see in that area, some rearranging of elementary school plans, as well.

There is a BRAC meeting tonight, and the information shared with the BRAC should get posted shortly thereafter.

Don't be surprised if they hold off on any KAA-related shifts until later.

I can’t find a source, but someone mentioned earlier that Mateo Dunne anticipates KAA to be ready for the 26-27 school year. If that’s the case, I really wonder what’s the point of having this meeting if they haven’t already drafted a KAA scenario.

Dunne said that the property sale is scheduled to close in August. Because of that scheduled closing date, he said, “We won’t be able to use it for this coming school year; however, we will be using it for other purposes, such as training sessions.” He said that it will open as a high school in the fall of 2026. He said the superintendent will develop and present a project plan to the public.

That’s the article where he discussed turning the school into a magnet, right?

He doesn’t discuss it. In this article the suggestion it be a magnet is the desire of “some parents” in the community.

Dunne said that it would cost FCPS approximately $430 million to purchase land and build a school from scratch. In the community, some parents advocate that the building be used as a second Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology, which would tap advanced students for specialized education degrees.

Oh, it was the wtop article where Dunne was quoted:

It could be a magnet school, similar to the prestigious Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology, Dunne said.

But, that solves no problems for the need in the western part of the county. Dixit has said it is for a western high school.

For sure this is not dixit’s rodeo.

Maybe, maybe not. But, the school is in Sully district. And, Sully district kids go a LONG way to Oakton. And, they go to Chantilly High--which is composed mostly of Sully district students.

When/where is the BRAC meeting tonight? Can the public attend? Seems like an important one to invite the public to given the uncertainty with the new $150 million high school.

Isn’t that illegal?

They apparently got legal advice that, as long as the committee was deemed to be advising the superintendent rather than the School Board, they could close the meetings to the public.

Boundaries were discussed at work session last week or the week before. The new school was only mentioned in passing. Perhaps they are waiting for the sale to close before any discussion.

The sb voted to create the Committee. Seems pretty clear that these meetings are supposed to be open.

Go file a lawsuit, then. But if you aren’t a member of the BRAC and try to attend a meeting, my understanding is you’ll be refused entry.

“Go file a lawsuit, then.” Someone should make t-shirts for the FCPS position on FOIA.

I’m not saying FCPS’s position is correct, but someone asked if the meetings are open to the public and some of us know that non-BRAC members who’ve tried to attend have been turned away.

They are usually posted the next day at 5pm. Nothing is up as of 3pm so guessing/hoping previous patterns will follow.
