| Any idea when they plan to vote on the calendar for next year? I haven't seen any proposal or results of the survey, but would be interested to see what the possible options are if anyone has insights. Also wondering if there's any discussion of trying to move the calendar back up to start school before labor day. TIA for any info. |
This was discussed at the recent policy committee meeting. There are two scenarios, and both still have school starting the day after Labor Day. https://www.boarddocs.com/mabe/mcpsmd/Board.nsf/files/B4DS8Y6AFB55/$file/180913%202019-2020%20School%20Year%20Calendar.pdf |

Scenario 1 = long spring break
Scenario 2 = short spring break I prefer the longer break. Which scenario do you think they will adopt? |
| The governor’s executive order is still in effect as of now and the individual school districts have no say in when they start - it has to be after Labor Day. |
| Both options have the last day of school as a Monday, which seems pretty useless. Other than that, I like option 1 (longer break). |
| Kind of amusing that 12/23 is off as it would be likely a high absence day but the 1/2 day on 6/15 is just fine. |
| I think they will wait until after the election and to see if Jealous wins and if he’ll rescind the order. |
They can't. BOE must adopt a calendar by December. The inauguration is in January. |
Results of the survey were discussed at a July policy management committee meeting. They indicated general preferences regarding days off and public/common knowledge (or lack of knowledge) about MCPS regarding absence from school for religious holidays as it impacts make-up work, attendance awards, etc. They talked for a while, but it wasn't a lot of real information... said the staff would come up with a couple of calendar options to present in a future meeting (which was the September meeting, as a PP said). |
| So stupid to have Monday, June 15 the last day of school. |
Scenario: Jealous wins in November. MCPS adopts a new calendar in violation of the Hogan executive order. Hogan seeks to have MCPS comply. Hogan leaves office in January. Jealous rescinds the executive order. MCPS is no longer in violation of anything. |
| Isn't Jealous behind by 20-ish points in the polls? |
Yes, Jealous is currently 20-ish points behind Hogan among people who answer their phones for an unknown number. |
Absolutely. I am sure the BOE would feel very comfortable with a calendar that didn't comply with the EO if Jealous won. But, it looks unlikely that that is going to happen. |
| Why are we not off for Columbus day yet have all these BS half days for no reason? |
