Is the Whole Foods in Glover Park ever going to reopen?

That was the star in Glover Park, and I really miss it!

I miss it too. I'd really love for it to reopen and so would all my neighbors in GP. The Social Safeway is just a little too far to walk to. I guess we'll all have to find consolation in the Trader Joe's that will open next year. You'd think with Amazon owning Whole Foods now they could easily win the case against the landlord.

I was just thinking of posting this same question yesterday!

Such a bizarre legal battle.

Is this the one that got shut down because of the rat infestation?

It's more complicated than that. They did have a vermin problem (but what grocery stores in DC don't?) and they tried to mitigate it by renovating. Then they landlord jumped all over them for doing that. I don't get why the landlord wanted them out. Now the landlord is losing money by that space sitting empty for more than a year.

I think they want to put condos in.

Landlord stated they took too long to do renovation and were in violation of their lease (used it as an excuse to up the rent). WF pushed back, landlord dug in, here we are.

Truly sucks as the 5 years I've lived in GP we've lost a ton of small(ish) businesses: ice cream store, sweet frog, ACE hardware (thank God they came back).

But hey, there's still Good Guys.

I believe the old company I worked for built that location originally! (I think not the building..but built it out inside)

I don’t undrerstand what the owners want — just higher rent from WH or to kick them out?

Are rumors upthread about wanting to make condos there true?

I used to live in that neighborhood. It needs a grocery store more than more condos.
