How is the cheese at Costco?

Anonymous
Was there today and I noticed that their cheese prices are $10-$11/lb. vs. WF $20/lb. Is WF really that much better?

I've been buying cheese at Costco for years (mostly Parmigiana), and I don't think Whole Paycheck's cheese is any better. You can always try the old blinded Pepsi challenge with both to see which you prefer.

It’s just as good, but sometimes I don’t want such a huge piece of cheese!

Costco cheese is great imho. Love the Arla harvarti slices.

Prefer Aldis

It's good, but you have to commit. My favorite is the cave aged cheddar - it's always a hit when I put it out.

Depends on the cheese. Love the red wax Gouda. The Cabot in black wax, the manchego

I love the smoked gouda.

These are known brands. Why not by them at Costco?

Thanks everyone! I don't really like cheese, but was thinking about for when i have company.

+1000 for Manchego, Petit Basque, Comté...

I once got a Harbison from Costco, which is so much better than all of the fake bries on the US market (authentic Brie is made with raw milk, and aged no more than 6 weeks, which makes it illegal for the US market...)

I'm a cheese snob, and think Costco sells some great cheeses!

Agree, costco cheese is great! They do come in large pieces, so great for a crowd, or just get one at a time. We get the huge blocks of feta and freeze half for later. It that’s pretty well, especially if you’re just crumbling it into salad or cooking/baking with it.

Kids love the smoked Gouda, I like the pecorino Romano and buffalo mozzarella.

What?! That’s blasphemy!

But if you buy them for guests from Costco, make sure it’s for a big group and/ or people that will be visiting for more than a couple days. Esp if you don’t eat them, they do go bad and if you don’t eat them, you might not realize, especially soft cheeses. I normally buy my regulars from Costco, but otherwise stick to WF or cheese stores for items I only want for small groups or special occasions.

If they have the Jasper Hill cheddar, get that! It’s absolutely delicious! I buy a ton of cheese but specifically buy the cheddar at Costco because it’s so much cheaper!
