Serial Season 3!

Serial season 3 dropped today - 2 episodes. They are covering a court house in Cleveland, OH. The premise sounds interesting so far, although I hope they really step up their reporting and follow through. In the Dark earlier this year set a really high bar. I have to say, I am happy to have Sarah's voice back in my life!

Based on the two you've heard so far, is it more like season 1 or season 2? I loved season 1. I didn't make it past the 5th episode of season 2.

I’m not OP but have listened to first episode and part of second. Sarah spent a year in Cleveland criminal courts. She is not going to focus on just one case but instead will delve into various cases, running the spectrum from simple misdemeanors to aggravated felonies. So far, it is excellent. Much more engaging than Season 2, though if you are expecting a single case from beginning to end like Season 1, you might be disappointed.

it's really good. Totally different from season 1 or 2, but most similar to season 1. I also didn't get past episode 4 of season 2.

Serial season one was a unique case that the producer and team spent years investigating and the podcast was unlike any other form of audio journalism to date. It is not realistic to expect them to recreate that in subsequent serial seasons, but the new season should still be good journalism/listening!

It's a welcome change from all the true crime podcasts that proliferated after serial season 1 because it's not about guilt or innocence, but about the small ways the system works or doesn't. I loved the first episode about how nobody thinks misdemeanors are big deals, even when they are.

I'm excited to start season 3. I loved season 1 but hated season 2 and listened to maybe 3 episodes.

Just listened to the 1st two episodes and really enjoyed them.

The first season was the first podcast I ever listened to, so Serial is special to me. I also listened to all of season 2, and though it wasn't as gripping as season 1, I found it extremely illuminating as to the experience of servicemembers in Afghanistan, which I knew nothing about beforehand.

Ugh, I found episode one really boring! I know this is an important subject - but, I don't know, I just didn't enjoy the ep. Actually I shut it off partway through when the lawyer was eating the carrot cake on mic, and I couldn't take the smacking noises.

Have other people liked this season so far? Should I try again?

The second episode is about a judge who thinks he's a king. It's pretty good, especially the end.

It should be interesting to see if Cleveland’s judges are re-elected.
