Whittle School?

We just got the brochure in the mail, and would like to know more. How many students will they have in DC next year? Anyone seen the campus? I looked online but thought I’d also check here to ask for any insight about the school.

No one really knows OP.

Read this article and see if you still are really interested in this experiment, at a price of ~$40K per year for kindergarten. https://www.townandcountrymag.com/society/money-and-power/a22084801/chris-whittle-to-launch-global-academy-whittle-school-and-studios/

we got the material too.
I wonder how they found our address?
I haven't look at the book yet.

I thought the brochure was very impressive but I can’t quite picture what it would really be like, seems so big and making lots of promises.

It very much sounds like big promises...and why did this guy leave Avenues in NY?

Do you think this could change the standing of the other private schools? I imagine a lot of DCUM parents wouldn't mind less competition for their DD or DS if families abandon Sidwell/GDS/St. Alban's/NCS/Maret for this new shiny object.

It will be in the Intelsat building in Van Ness.

But really, who is going to send their kid there?

No one will choose it over any established independent or parochial school in the region.

Would you send your kid there over Sidwell? STA? Bullis? Sheridan? I mean, who is going to pioneer this?

Seriously? Nothing about it seems like it will give Sidwell & Co a run for their money. I just dont see how the for profit model can really focus on kids.

I doubt it. The parents choosing those schools want a proven track record. Maybe a few who would go for a high quality Chinese immersion option will leave/not apply but it's unlikely to be a significant group. This area's recently founded private schools are all smaller and charge lower tuition.

I heard they just kicked off their viral marketing campaign w dcum posts. For free!

the school is intended to primarily serve children of chinese nationals. I think DC english speaking parents are going to have a tough time with the culture.

Globalism is very 2010. These days it’s all about every country for themselves. I think this model is passé and won’t work in the 2020s.

I strongly suspect the primary base of students will be Chinese nationals who wish to study in the USA prior to university. It is one of the fastest growing sectors (US high school / prep schools) for Chinese students who want to get 'ahead' of their peers and avoid the dreaded Chinese university entrance exam.
