Hi Everyone,
I just wanted to let everyone know that the Confucius Institute at the University of Maryland, College Park, is starting a children's Chinese class for ages 3+. The first lesson will be on this Sunday, October 25 from 12:30-2 pm in Holzapfel Hall, Room 134. (Free parking in the Regents Drive Parking Garage). Classes will run for 8 weeks. The cost is $150. For more information, call 301-405-0213 or by e-mail to James Cui at cuijianx@gmail.com.

The course is designed for pre-literate and literate children. Here's a quick list of the topics.

Greetings and describing self
Family members and numbers
Chinese art day-colors, drawing, painting

Parts of the body

Chinese tea party-food and drink

Chinese zodiac and other animals

Location words

Transportation Vehicles

The class focuses on developing conversational skills through activities, art projects and games. Older children will also be introduced to Pinyin (the Romanized alphabet used to help pronounce Chinese) and writing characters.

My two sons will attend. I hope to some of you there too.
Thanks,
Sherry Russell
