| We're TTC and the only H1N1 vaccines available are Flumist here (or will be for another month ro month and a half). I currently am TTC, but we're out for this month as I have my period right now (CD 2). I managed to get a spot at a clinic 2 counties over for a flumist tomorrow, and I assume the virus will clear my system by the time I ovulate (usu ~CD19). I wouldn't be so concerned except that I have a toddler and work at a university where there have been lots (~2000) of sick kids. Does anyone know specifics about Flumist and if it's safe for those TTC if I'm clearly not pregnant and won't be trying for about 2 more weeks? |
| No medical knowledge but in your situation I would not hesitate to get the Flu MIst. |
How did you get an appointment if you're not officially in a priority group? I'm not criticizing, just curious if places are making those appointments. |
| I have the same question -- CD 1 and hoping to conceive this month. It *seems* like it would be OK, right? |

I'm not in DC proper (though we used to live in DC). We're way out in VA in a college town, and in our county and the surrounding ones (as opposed to cities) they're not prioritizing who gets the vaccine--though it's a total bitch to find it. All I had to do was call and they slotted me in.
In this case, anyway, since pregnant ladies, asthmatics, anyone immuno-compromised, health workers, and kids under 2 can't get flumist (which is all they have), this could be why. I'm driving over a mountain 3 counties over to get it, to an even more rural area than where we are. We've had no sign of the actual shot down this way, and the doctors' offices and county health dept says they won't be getting more in until probably mid-November or later, which is annoying as it's clearly sweeping through here (thanks undergrads!). |
| The forms ask "are you pregnant or do you plan to get pregnant in the next 30 days?" if you answer 'yes', then you're supposed to get the shot, not the mist. Yes, there is difficulty in predicting when you're going to get pregnant (care to buy my lotto ticket for me while you're at it?!) I guess you're supposed to put TTC on hold for 30 days? |
| OP here. My OB finally returned my call and said that it was fine to get the mist and TTC this month. |
I got the flumist earlier this month & my OB said to hold off TTC this month. Plus, on the H1N1 Flumist form I had to sign that I was not pregnant nor planning to become pregnant within the next 30 days. From a little research, there are indications that fetal exposure to flu virus does have long term effects on a human as they age. Also, the Flumist is live virus which can shed from a vaccinated person for up to 21 days so it is not necessarily out of your system by the time you O this month. I'm still up in the air about TTC for this month. Shortly after the flumist I got an HSG which is supposed to increase your chances of fertility for the month you got it & the two months after (but moreso the month you got it). So I just don't know what to do. I have to decide today though
