Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS)
Or maybe it’s irrelevant because it’s the FairFACTS Matters appointee from Great Falls area who is railing against the KAA purchase. |
My kids are younger, but I am quite sure that they will have zero interest in the aviation academy. And I really don’t care what that school becomes. So much for your “very transparent” theory. |
Remember when the boundary review process was 100% intended to make sure that every school had the same amount of poor people? Good times. |
Remember when the first thread was locked down at over 350+ pages? |
Why was the first one locked down? Not because it got too large? |
Too long |
People always get mad on here because they think there’s too much “speculation” and that we shouldn’t talk about things until there is a decision. If those people report the thread or write to the admins enough, the admin will probably just lock/delete the thread. I’m surprised this one has lasted as long as it has honestly. |
There are threads in other forums with over 1000 pages so that's not it. The last one just got too off topic. |
When Jeff closed it, he said that the same poster had posted the recent comments. or something like that. I think that we have now come to the place where there won't be too much new information. The purchase of KAA has spurred a lot of new speculation. I do think they have to settle KAA before they go any further. I could see in that area, some rearranging of elementary school plans, as well. |
There is a BRAC meeting tonight, and the information shared with the BRAC should get posted shortly thereafter. Don't be surprised if they hold off on any KAA-related shifts until later. |
I can’t find a source, but someone mentioned earlier that Mateo Dunne anticipates KAA to be ready for the 26-27 school year. If that’s the case, I really wonder what’s the point of having this meeting if they haven’t already drafted a KAA scenario. |
https://www.fairfaxtimes.com/articles/fcps-acquires-king-abdullah-academy/article_e470ed8d-4caf-4333-8992-165f31313ed8.html Dunne said that the property sale is scheduled to close in August. Because of that scheduled closing date, he said, “We won’t be able to use it for this coming school year; however, we will be using it for other purposes, such as training sessions.” He said that it will open as a high school in the fall of 2026. He said the superintendent will develop and present a project plan to the public. |
That’s the article where he discussed turning the school into a magnet, right? |
No. I think that was one of the first articles and I haven't seen it lately. He mentioned in this article: Dunne said that one of FCPS’s big problems is the lack of land supply. He said that there aren’t many vacant 40-acre properties in the western half of Fairfax County. But Dunne said that FCPS obtained the property for the tax-assessed value rather than the market value. |
He doesn’t discuss it. In this article the suggestion it be a magnet is the desire of “some parents” in the community. Dunne said that it would cost FCPS approximately $430 million to purchase land and build a school from scratch. In the community, some parents advocate that the building be used as a second Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology, which would tap advanced students for specialized education degrees. |
