The article is half-baked.

When they made magnet admissions more competitive and parents no longer could game the system, the tiger moms on this board went cray-cray. I wouldn't take this stuff too seriously.

But your kid still did not get in, right? Some kids are too behind to even avail of a handout. Cray-Cray indeed!!

My younger child started @TPMS magnet this year and the older one is at Blair SMAC. So we have first-hand experience with both the new and old selection process, overall the new one seems better.

This article was laughable. They really need to do a better job of fact-checking.

are you the FT post deleter on DCUM MCPS? always obsessed with your tiger mom theories and have wonderful illegal immigration is or how it is no different from visa immigration.

Do you have a real job or is this it?

What a shameful embarrassment for MCPS. They actually stated that they didn't admit the brightest students. Keep talking MCPS, keep talking.

The brain drain from MoCo to the private schools is real. Used to be 20% of the Big 5 private schools, now MD students are 40%+. Next up, they move house back to WDC. ANd people don't bother moving here in the first place, "for the schools."

That ship sailed years ago. People stay in DC for JKLM instead of moving to MoCo. VA and Howard are taking the other high performers who prioritize schools. Frederick and Urbana became the go to districts for teachers and people who need affordable housing and prioritize education.

Only fools move to MoCo "for the schools" now.

Totally, these changes to admission pushed a few tiger moms over the edge when their anointed ones didn't make the cut. Rather than face facts, they're insisting there's this secret conspiracy to cheat their more deserving offspring without a shred of supporting evidence.

So there is an article in the NYT about how MCPS discriminated against Asian Americans with thoughtful restrained comments from an Asian American father and you choose to cal him racially derogatory names? Yuck.
