Best family skiing in Europe?

We've done Courchevel, France, and Garmisch, Germany. Enjoyed both (though prefered France). Would like to consider somewhere in Italy - anyone have recommendations? We need a good ski school for our kiddos (3, 6, and 8), and a nice atmosphere/ski town.

We loved South Tyrol. We stayed at the Famihotel Alpenhof, and it was perfect.

I should clarify, it was perfect for what we were looking for - family friendly, and a great on sight ski school. Not super luxurious if you’re looking for that, but it is great for young children (ours were 3 and 5, but I there were older children there, too).

Zermatt is amazing.

In Italy I’d say Ortisei.

Slovenia has very inexpensive, beautiful resorts. Definitely friendly on the budget and a fun experience.

+1 on Zermatt. Also, you can just ski over to Cervinia to get your dose of Italy. Incredible lunches on the mountain......I need to go back.

Only Italian one I’ve gone to is Courmayeur. It’s ok, but nothing to scream about. With really young kids, I’d say maybe Megeve. There is a pass that gives you access to Megeve/St Gervais + Chamonix + Courmayeur (and maybe Verbier too.. can’t quite remember). I also liked Les Houches in Chamonix for kids - a lot of gentler slope options.

I loved courmayeur as a mountain but we didn’t stay there (stayed in Chamonix). And my kids didn’t need lessons at that point. But staying in Chamonix was fun for the kids.

What about Crans Montana in Switzerland?

Look into Kinderhotels (https://www.kinderhotels.com/). There are many locations --very kid friendly, some have ski schools. We used to live abroad and stayed at one in the summer (wanted to go back to ski in the winter but didn't get a chance to) and it was great. Food was fantastic.

Garmisch is a wonderful ski town with beautiful mountains but has suffered quite a bit from global warming. Several years we lived in Germany and the skiing conditions were not good - no snow down in the valley and only snow up on top of the mountain. Better to choose towns with higher base elevation and/or glaciers like Solden, Obergurgl, or Obertauern (all in Austria).

In Italy, Cortina or Arabba. Trust me on this. Google the Sella Ronda

I just googled Sella Ronda - seems more like sightseeing that quality skiing....

Looking for the poster who just went to Cortina - are you still around? How was your trip? We just booked for early March and are looking for any recommendations. We have a hotel but any recs for restaurants, ski logistics, good places for rentals (we don't want to haul our skis over), etc? We are also starting in Venice for a couple of days. Did you drive or take the bus to Cortina?

Slovenia has nice resorts.

Flotus thanks you for your patronage.

Verbier has a completely separate mountain just for families and kids. It’s removed from and much more flat than the rest of the resort. So that area doesn’t really get any of the faster skiiers, therefore there’s a much lower risk of accidents.
