| Does anyone know what the availability of both flu shots is at NVP? DD is slated to have her 6-month checkup in a couple weeks, but I read on the NVP website yesterday that they are out of the seasonal flu vax, because production has been sidelined in favor of the H1N1 shot. But will I be able to get the H1N1 vax at her checkup? I am really distraught at the possibility that I might leave that appointment without either shot! DD is in daycare. If I can't get either shot there, where can I go? She is too young for the CVS Minute Clinic... |
| I go to NOVA pediatrics also. I wouldn't count on them having the seasonal flu vaccine in a couple of weeks. Last year, my DD received the first dose and then they ran out before she could get the second dose. What I didn't know, and what they didn't tell me, is that you can get a prescription/referral and get the pediatric seasonal flu dose at a number of clinics around the area. A lot of smaller, independent chains carry the pediatric dose. You will need the prescription since your child is under 2. As for the H1N1, I am not counting on them having that either. If you read through the info on the website, they are urging patients to get the H1N1 at the public clinics. |
| I was just there for my daughters flu shot and the nurse said not to quote her but most likely November. If you find it elsewhere - get it since by the time Nova ped gets it, it will be time for the booster! |

I have been in a few times over the last weeks (as recently as Oct. 15). My doc (who will usually give a clear, off-the-record response) was unsure when the seasonal flu vaccine would be available, although she was comfortable that it would be available in time to still be effective for the flu season.
As far as other potential sites go, I noticed that INOVA's seasonal flu clinics were all canceled. I believe that Fairfax County's clinics still have vaccine available, but you need to call to confirm. Here is the link for the clinic listing: http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/hd/hdclinicsite.htm For H1N1, again NVP does not have its supply, and Fairfax County has had to severely cut back its scheduled early clinics. It has a single clinic scheduled for this Saturday for pregnant women and children aged 6 to 36 months. More info is available at: http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/flu/h1n1-vaccine-distribution.htm Good luck! |
Please note that this is the clinic that is not allowing strollers. See the other thread on the Fairfax clinics.... |
