Toddler taking off shoes/socks

Anonymous
DS is 16 months and takes his shoes and socks off all the time. He loves shoes, but he takes them off every time we are in the car/stroller. Do I just have to wait this out, or are there shoes that are harder to get off?

Mine does the same, no advice but following to see what others have to say.

Also refusal to put on a jacket!!

Same here. We lost many shoes that way.

Shoes with laces are harder..but still.. they just have to get older.

it's still warm out, I don't think I would care if my kid was shoeless in the car/stroller. just stuff the shoe back onto the foot when you get to your destination.

Yeah, mine went through that phase. She would sit in the reverse car seat and I would ask her to please not take off her shoes and socks, then I would hear rustling and she would announce she took off her shoes and socks.

This is why we haven’t used socks since May.

Please don't buy the dreaded shoes with laces. The suckers keep coming undone. No matter how tight you tie them, when the children start playing with their laces, you have to tie them again.

+1

It is part of their newly discovered motor skills and independence

This made me smile. My 19 mo old loves to take her shoes off and looks so pleased. She’s also getting into trying to put MY shoes on.

I actually think it’s kind of adorable when I go to get my son from his car seat and his little bare feet are showing. He shouts “TOES” and looks super proud.

it’s good motor skill practice. Let him take them off (or don’t bother to put them on) then just resign yourself to putting back on when it’s time to remove child from stroller or car.

Mine is 2.5 and still takes them off in the car seat every time. I just wait to put them on until we arrive now.

OP here. I have started leaving them off until we arrive at daycare, but he's moving from the infant room to the toddler room, and he will need to keep his shoes on all day. Thanks to all for your comments. I don't actually care, I just know it's an issue for the daycare (licensing).
